Another Possible Sighting of the Shunka Warakin

A couple of days ago I got in an interesting report of a injured Shunka Warakin sighting. The Shunka Warakin is an animal mentioned in American folklore that is said to resemble a wolf, a hyena, or both.
Over the last few years I have had several sightings reports from Iowa of what is described as a hyena looking creature. This report is yet another possible sighting.

Here is the report

Name: David ******

Email Address: On file

State: Iowa

County: Dallas/Polk

Date of Sighting: 4/15/17

Time of Day: 10:35pm

Nearest Town: Urbandale/ waukee

Length of Sighting: 2 mins

How many Witnesses: 2

Any Photos/Videos: I should have,  only if I knew it was so rare

Describe sighting in detail:
We were sitting at the stop light and dark brown/ black looking hyena (first animal that came to mind when i saw it running) ran across Douglas Ave. (limping, injured left back leg). It was about 2 cars length away from us and I turned my high beams on to see it better. It stopped and looked at us but kept going pretty quick. This area is very populated with deer and I think thats why he was out looking for a meal, but got too close to the road and got injured.
It kept running near the road on Alice's rd. when it ran it kinda looked hunch backed and its head shape reminded me of a hyena. If I didn't have to work I probably would have drove in its direction and try to get pictures of it. I didn't realize how rare it was, I feel really dumb not going after it.
It looked a little smaller in size (small deer size). There has to be bigger ones in the area. I'm  definitely going to be on the look out. I'm in shock. I believe it was a shunka warakin.

Researchers Corey and Tye from Iowa where the first to report this creature to me. They have taken the lead on this new report and will be investigating the area. They hope to provide me with a update in the near future.

A special thanks to David for sharing his sighting with us.

Thanks
~Tom~
