Things to Take Care of Before Travelling

Since working remotely or cooperating with colleagues from all over the world is normal today, Travelling becomes a frequent practice. Sometimes it means you will be away from home for a couple of days, and then again you can be gone for several weeks. It all depends on the nature of your business and a job title you have.

Still, you will have to leave your home for a while, so it would be a good idea to make sure that everything will be fine while you’re away. Also, there may be some errands that you should place on the permanent travel preparation list so you wouldn’t forget them. Whatever the case, there are certain things to take care of before travelling any distance.

Take care of bills and rent

Before you leave, make sure that all your bills are paid, as well as the rent if you’re leasing an apartment or house. Travelling for a longer period of months may require of you to cancel the lease agreement. In that case, move your belongings to the storage facility or any other place where they’ll be safe.

You can also come to an agreement with your landlord and decide to rent your apartment for the period you’ll be absent. That way you get to keep the apartment and pay the rent without causing any additional expenses or debts.

Health and immunization

If your jobs take you away to the areas with outbreaks or endemic diseases like malaria, you need to receive the vaccines. Checking your Health before a long trip is highly advisable especially for those with chronic conditions.

In order to stay up to date with your immunization plan consult your doctor and check recommendations by World Health Organisation and your country’s foreign affair office. These are the usual places to seek information on the global health status, bulletins and warnings.

Make sure your documents are in order

Passport, ID card and travel arrangements are only some of the things you have to make sure are in order. Some foreign countries require a visa for entrance so check their embassy websites for further information. You may need to provide proof for the purpose of travelling to the certain country, like an invitation to attend a congress, for example.

Also, if your company is taking care of those things for you, print ticket and accommodation information. This way you will have them near you if your phone battery drains or you can’t access the files due to the problems with internet.

Take care of your pet

If you’re travelling for only a couple of days, then pet water bowl with an auto-fill system is a perfect solution. There is the similar solution for food and buy a potty tray. Hiring a dog walker can also save you some trouble if you feel uncomfortable leaving your pet alone all the time.

However, if you’ll be absent for a longer period you have several options. The first one is to hire a sitter which will spend the time with your pet. Dogs are especially sensitive to staying alone so this might be an appropriate solution for them.

Leaving your pet with a family member or a friend is usually what people do. Pets like to know the people in their surroundings and this can be better for those animals prone to anxiety. Finally, choose a kennel if all else fails. Make sure that you feel comfortable with the one you chose and that they have a veterinarian on staff.

Check the currency and other financial details

Every country has its own currency. If you’re travelling domestically, then this is not something to trouble yourself with. However, going abroad will take some effort to understand the exchange rate and costs. Prices differ from country to country so see that you take enough money with you for the necessary expenses.

Sometimes bank exchange rate is not favourable and you’ll do better in the exchange office. Cards like VISA and MasterCard are accepted in most of the world but find out for what purpose. For example, you may want to pay a taxi with a card and that is not an option in certain destinations.

Finally

Things like packing are completely up to you, as well as the type of clothes and toiletries you will carry with you. Taking care of everything before going on a trip will also help you feel better and less stressed. We recommend that you create a list of all the things you have to do, pack and carry with you.

Whenever you finish a task, check the box and proceed to the next item. It may sound complicated, but once you create your list you will only have to modify it and use it to make sure everything is in order.
