To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Zombieland, Zombieland 2 is on the way.

… why?

Let me be crystal clear from the jump: I like Zombieland. I’m just not sure about the need for a sequel. To be honest, comedy sequels in general just seems like a bad idea. Very rarely do they come out as well as the original, and usually they come out being so bad they’re painful. “People loved this joke the first time, so lets do it a bunch of times in the sequel!”

Without seeing this film yet, who knows what they will do. It will have the same director and writers as the original, and, amazingly enough, the original cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin have all agreed to come back. Considering how all their careers have grown since the original, that is actually pretty impressive.

The original didn’t set the box office on fire, but it made a profit, and more importantly, it has gathered a cult following.

Zombieland 2 is scheduled to begin production in January 2019 for an October 2019 release.
