Appearing on Sunrise in Australia, Tom Cruise was asked about the status of Top Gun 2 and the actor replied “it’s definitely happening,” and that he expects filming to begin within the next year.

In case you have forgotten the original film that debuted 31 years ago, Cruise played a hot shot F-14 pilot who went by the call sign of Maverick. He was picked for the Navy’s Top Gun flight school, and… and I know this will shock you… he chaffed under their rules. Why you could almost say he was… a maverick.

If there was a way to measure how disinterested I am in this project, the results would go into the negative calculations. The original Movie was fine, not anything special. But what I can definitely say is that I have not once thought how it needed a sequel. The story was done, move along.
