Roxbro House - a five star BnB in Northumberland with a castle view

Springtime at Warkworth castle
There can't be many bed and breakfast establishments with a direct view out onto a real English castle but Roxbro House in the charming town of Warkworth in Northumberland, can boast just that! Nestled next to the river Coquet and a stone's throw from the dramatic Northumberland coastline, this is a five star stay with a five star view.
Come on in!
A traditional luxury BnB with sumptuous furnishings and first class service Roxbro House is a great place to stay for a weekend or short break exploring the wildly beautiful county of Northumberland. There are several rooms to choose from, each individually designed and furnished in rich colours with tasteful antiques. The Ethel Noble room, named after the lady who lived here for many years, has a huge carved oak French bed and a spacious bathroom with a cast iron slipper bath taking centre stage..
Beautiful bathroom
There's a shower too and classic black and white tiling. Fluffy robes, slippers and toiletries come as standard. The sheets are crisp Egyptian cotton and the quilts are super cosy goose down, no less! Medieval Warkworth Castle itself is literally right outside your bedroom window.
Luxury sleeping
The Ethel Noble Room is a larger than average superior room situated in the newly acquired part of the building and is named after the grand old lady who lived in this property for many years.
This room has been designed with pure indulgent luxury in mind. A larger than average main room which directly overlooks the Warkworth Castle will house a rather decadent 6 foot wide carved oak half tester bed.
The bed will of course will be dressed with our Egyptian Cotton linen and topped with a goose down duvet and pillows. The room will also contain beautiful antique furniture which will include a breakfasting table and chairs- should you wish to enjoy our complimentary room service!
The large en-suite bathroom will boast a large deep cast iron double ended slipper bath- separate shower cubicle with power shower, a large vanity basin and a low level Victorian W. C. This luxurious bathroom will also directly overlook Warkworth Castle.
This room comes with a private mini bar and fridge, large flat screen LCD television,DVD player and ipod docking station. Warm fluffy towels, slippers, bathrobes and luxurious toiletries are of course standard to the bathroom.

Clare Gibson and her family have been at Roxbro House for fourteen years now. The majority of their guests are repeat visitors, and you can see why. The rooms are luxurious and there's a delicious breakfast menu with the full English option complemented by choices of smoked haddock, eggs Benedict or pancakes with maple syrup and crispy bacon, all served in the garden room.

You can partake of afternoon tea at Roxbro House and, while there is no evening restaurant here, you can order from a selection of hot food and have a 'room picnic' delivered to your door to enjoy the indulgence of a cosy meal in.

Warkworth has lovely walks along the river Coquet and the village has quite a few coffee shops and little art galleries and gift shops to browse around. There's no shortage of pubs either with the Mason Arms getting a special mention for its food, and The Sun for its life size knight in armour which welcomes you at the front door, as well as a giant rather realistic Labrador relaxing in the bar!
A good knight was had by all
Warkworth Castle, in the custody of English Heritage since 1984 is made up of the ruins of an original 12th Century medieval  stronghold set a top a protective mound.
The county of Northumberland has a castle it seems almost in every town and indeed there are more castles here per square mile, than in any other English county. This castle has a complicated past but came into possession of the dynasty of the Dukes of Northumberland in the late 19th Century. It is a Grade 1 listed building and a scheduled ancient monument. Its mound famously bursts into life with a girdle of daffodils in the spring and it's wonderful to see the castle with its full yellow necklace of gorgeous daffs. There are lots of events at the castle in the summer and you may find a few battles going on or a bit of jousting in the grounds come the warmer weather.
Embleton Bay,  with its stunning views towards the ancient Dunstanburgh Castle, won Beach of the Year in the Countryfile awards this year but Warkworth beach is one of my favourites. The beach and its dramatic windswept sand dunes stretches for miles along the bay and as you reach the end you come upon the surprise river inlet where you can see across to the village of Alnmouth on the other side of the water.. The golf course is on top of the hill where the sand dunes finish and is fringed by rolling farmland sprinkled with wildflowers in the spring and summer. The old Celtic cross stands as a testament to the Christian history of this part of the world.
