First of all, I'm sorry I haven't been around for a while. It's been a busy few weeks, but I hope to be back blogging regularly again now. Now to the post:
Have you ever heard of this show? It is one of the most appalling things to have ever been broadcast on TV. You can take a look on MTV's website if you dare. It is an outrageous, unashamed parade on all that's wrong with some young peoples' aspirations. This is quite apparent in the US, where being wealthy is valued more highly than in other countries. However, I do not want to single out the caricatured teenage idiots from the American show; I am enraged that this sort of thinking still exists in the world.
When you have wealthy parents, you've got no other talents/passions and are too darn thick to appreciate anything of value, your only outlet is to "be popular". It appears that one of the ways of making yourself popular is to have an incredibly opulent and decadent coming-of-age party, and invite everybody to it. It is absolutely despicable, and if there really are people out there whose most important aspiration is to do this, then I pity them. The point about incredibly lavish, ridiculously extravagant parties and their meaninglessness was made over 85 years ago in "The Great Gatsby" was it not?
The relationships that Gatsby had with his guests at his parties was non-existent; it was purely superficial. The people who attended were mindless drones, seeking only transient entertainment with little/no meaning to their lives.
It is the exact same thing now! Stupid teenagers, you will not be popular by throwing a pretentious party as the people who will go to it are not even worth talking to. It's all show.
I'll say that again: it's all show. You need more meaningful ambitions than throwing showy parties; there is no point in establishing perfunctory relations with other mindless people, whilst also wasting all your money. That is definitely a stupid thing to do right?
