Hairstyle How To – How to Add Texture to Your Hair

Tags: hair

This hairstyle tutorial is going to show you how to add texture to your Hair in a few simple steps. Whether you want to enhance your hairs natural texture or completely fake it, you can, and here is how, in today’s Hairstyle How To!

The thing I love most about this textured hairstyle is it looks amazing on all lengths of hair. Popularly known as ‘beach waves’ this messy, undone, super feminine and sexy hairstyle is great for all seasons!

What you will need -

  • Seal Salt Spray. (We like label.m Sea Salt Spray, $12 @Rylees)
  • Hair dryer
  • Curling iron (we like the Karmin Clipless Curling Wand as it is great for adding texture, waves and curls)
  • Flexible hold hair spray

This hairstyle works best on hair that is not freshly washed. Wet your hair then wrap in a towel to soak up some of the moisture. Remove towel and using your fingers (do NOT comb or brush hair) place hair to how you would like it to fall.

Generously spray hair with a Seal Salt Spray, scrunching hair as you spray. The salt in these sprays help to add texture but can also be very drying so if you have very dry hair you may wish to mix a small amount of leave in conditioner as well to balance things out a bit.

Using your hair dryer, you want to continue scrunching hair as you blow dry until hair is completely dry. I find with my fine, straight hair a lower speed setting keeps my hair from blowing out flat.

Once hair is completely dry you will then wrap large sections of hair, think 2-3 inches, loosely around the barrel of your curling iron. Do not comb sections out before curling. Continue until all of your hair has been curled and using your fingers, shape the twists until you have your desired outcome. You may have to go over a piece or two to fix any parts that stick out funny or fall flat.

Once you have your desired style in place, light spray hair with a flexible hold hair spray to help keep hair in place while still allowing for natural movement. We like Alcove finishing spray as it contains antioxidants and supplies a great flexible hold while adding a bit of shine to hair.
