My Blue Franklin Planner Classic Covey was a birthday gift from hell. No seriously, what follows is the crazy tale of my journey to planner peace in the midst of a new job and a new focus.

The Franklin Planner War

I ordered the planner a week and a half before my birthday (August 30, you should write that down for future reference). I was excited but not too excited to expidite shiping. It would be eight to ten days before we met. In the meantime, I used my red Franklin Planner, Little Red Corvette (LRC) from 2003.

The weekend before my birthday, My binder arrived. I was so excited- I still love opening gifts. And then I was crushed. The rings were gapped and would not close all the way.

I called, complained about them ruining my birthday plans, and the Franklin Covey rep offered to send a replacement via Overnight mail. Two days later when no tracking info was available, went on the war path. Apparentlt, the replacement was lost in the warehouse.

I called back and wrote on their Facebook page. The customer service response was lackluster too! There was no offer to refund my shipping costs nor did they offer anything that resembled empathy. They did, however, inrobotic-like terms, promise to overnight a second replacement.

I also placed an order for a compact size binder called Livi. It caught my eye and I do love leather. But I became even more frustrated because I never received confirmation of shipping of the 2nd replacement binder. So I emailed to cancel my Livi order.

The Path to Peace

Both binders arrived two days later and by that time, I had decided to stay in my LRC.

Really, I was happy to continue using this red Franklin Planner with the two-inch rings. In fact, I published a video about my planner setup and posted photos on my Instagram page. I was gushing. I even planned to use the blue planner as our financial binder. However, blue is my favorite color and suddenly, my “command center” was showing its age. The truth is that really wanted to use the blue one as it’s my favorite color. But I resisted.

Instead, I set up my compact Livi, which I renamed Isis, as my personal project planner. I made my dividers, ordered my DIYFish inserts and continued playing phone tag with Franklin Covey (onesided because the Call center manager has yet to call me back after her first attempt).

But there was a reason that I wanted the Franklin Planner Classic in blue. Isis was exactly what I wanted for my projects. It made me smile. Touch Little Red Corvet everyday as much as I do throughout the day should have brought me joy, but it did. I decided to sort through it immediately to reduce some of what was stuffed in it so that everything would fit onto it’s smaller rings. And fit it did.

What did I learn from all this crazy? Well, for one, only purchase a Franklin Covey Planner from other lovers and bypass ge company because they are not very interested in maintaining their quality name.

I also learned that planner peace comes in blue leather and homemade dividers!
