Monday Mottoes – #204

With the solar Eclipse swinging our way this afternoon, people are going nuts. I mean flipping out. I have noticed a distinct shift in mental health among people I tangentially know. It got me to thinking about darkness and its effect.

The few psychological studies which have been undertaken study the effects of a change in the electromagnetic field and gravitational force during an eclipse, in addition to marked hormonal changes. All of these impact behavior both during and following a Solar Eclipse.

But before? Prior to the event?

It could be all of the lighted highway signs telling people not to pull off the road and park on the shoulder during the eclipse. It might be the bumper-to-bumper traffic reported in key viewing areas. It may be food or gas shortages that are expected as millions of people descend upon key places to view. This could cause some anxiety to those who already are facing serious issues in life. One more thing just might be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

In any event, if the darkness affects your sense of when to sleep or eat, a nap should be helpful. Don’t feel as though you need to push yourself. Rest and regroup.

Which brings us to today’s motto:

“Darkness comes. In the middle of it, the future looks blank. The temptation to quit is huge. Don’t. You are in good company… You will argue with yourself that there is no way forward. But with God, nothing is impossible. He has more ropes and ladders and tunnels out of pits than you can conceive. Wait. Pray without ceasing. Hope.” ~John Piper

Couldn’t say it better myself. Be safe, everyone, and make it a great Monday!
