Not much happening at all. The wet season is over and so the frog season is also over. We have not even seen many frogs this season let alone had any Breed in the Pond. So last week I took my two younger girls hunting for more Turtle Food, and now the new guppies have some more tank mates- glass shrimp and pond snails.

I found the shrimp at Centenary Lakes and hopefully they will breed up in numbers to also become turtle food. They eat algae mostly, so should be good in the tank as it gets a lot of sun. I also let some go in the pond, no doubt never to be seen again.

I also caught a lot more mosquito fish which the turtles have since eaten. I put them straight in with the turtles, as they are known for not getting along with guppies.

The snails were a little harder to get. With no luck at Centenary Lakes and various other ponds around Cairns I decided to head to the local pet shops and see if they had any that had hitchhiked in on aquarium plants. It took three different shops, but I managed to get three different types in the end, all for free as they are considered pests by pet shop owners. Most of them look to be austropeplea lessoni which is native to Australia and seems to have many common names. There are three rams horn snails which are much larger and have a more interesting shaped shell... and one solitary Malaysian trumpet snail which I haven't seen since putting it in the tank.

So far the turtles have eaten about fifteen feeder fish over the last few weeks, so these new additions to their diet will be well received I'm sure.
