Remembering Willie B.

Someone recently shared this video and I just had to share it with everyone else! For those out there who remember, Willie B. was a famous western lowland gorilla that was housed in solitude at Zoo Atlanta inside the old primate house for a number of years before he was able to take his first steps outside into a natural habitat.

Video of the late Willie B. that was taken in 1999 at Zoo Atlanta. Here he is with two of his children, Olympia who was born in 1996 and named for the '96 Olympics and Kidogo (aka Willie B. Jr.). Olympia is now all grown up and living at the North Carolina Zoo with her soon to be one year old son, Apollo. Kidogo now lives at the Dewar Wildlife Trust: http://www.dewarwildlife.org/:

This video was taken in November of 1999 so Olympia would have been around four years old at that time whereas Kidogo would have been a bit younger (probably about 1-2 years of age) so he is the smaller of the two in the video.
