Detroit Realities #775

Clinton Township Trustee, Dean Reynolds was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for running 4 corruption schemes. The investigation also caught several other politicians and 22 contractors in and around Detroit. There have been 17 convictions so far…

An 11-year-old Detroit girl was raped by a man known to the family. The girl’s mother, Erica Underwood knew the man, 50-year-old Darrell Harris. Underwood immediately went to the Detroit Police (with evidence) to file a criminal complaint. The detective promised her that he would complete the arrest warrant that very day. But the detective did not complete it, and then went on vacation! It took an entire month before the application for a warrant arrived at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. They told Underwood it would take them another 2 months to review the application. Underwood went to Fox-2 News and magically, the review only took 2 days and Harris was arrested the following day. While Underwood was waiting for Harris to be arrested, he was free and had been harassing her for 2 months:

  • Threatening her with a gun for going to the police
  • Knocking over her trash cans
  • Driving passed her house
  • Bringing a handgun to her house (A felon cannot possess a handgun)
  • So she had to file an additional “Personal Order of Protection” against Harris.

Thankfully, he didn’t murder the family while Detroit Police fumbled and stumbled along for 2 months. Criminals in Detroit murder or intimidate their accusers to keep from getting convictions.

In scam-a-lot Detroit, a McDonald’s been running a tow shake-down scam for over a year now. The moment you walk inside the restaurant, a tow-truck that has been standing by dashes into the lot and tows your car – ringing the register for $420 in fees, paid only in cash, that they split with the McDonald’s owner, Dominique Virgiles. News reporters and local social media have all kinds of horror stories about this McDonald’s and BreakThrough Towing, but Detroit’s authorities do nothing about it (presuming the city isn’t also get a cut of the ill-gotten gravy). When you complain to the manager that your car is missing, they tell you, “Please don’t make a police report, just call the tow company.” Break Through towing is notorious for using spotters who get paid to point out cars on lots for too long, but they call them in as fast as they see drivers get out of their car. Although the spotters are obvious, the tow company claims they do not use them. People that never left the McDonald’s were told by the towing company that “they have video proof they must have left the McDonald’s. One woman went to the police and asked them to get the video proof – and like magic, she had her car back and no $420 cash payment was needed. It turns out, Breakthrough Towing has had numerous fines from Detroit and lost their State of Michigan license to operate 2 months ago – but they are still towing. So AVOID the McDonald’s on Woodward in Canfield by Wayne State University in midtown Detroit!

And finally, in “It is a Darwin move to be anywhere near Detroit” news,

  • Just west of Detroit in Inkster, a masked man with a hoodie was seen on video with 4 gallons of gasoline who burned a strip mall, destroying several businesses.
  • A former Detroit detective hasn’t worked in homicide since 2009. He was being evicted from his home when the moving company found a locker with files and actual evidence from old homicides. Police are investigating: he could face criminal charges and the cases will be reviewed for impropriety. Police Chief Craig says years ago they have a policy that flags cases not returned soon.
  • Opioid-related deaths in Detroit were 46 in 2012. Today, there are over 300 deaths, including fentanyl and synthetics.
  • A 28-year-old Detroiter was shot when a suspect in a hoodie drove up, got out of his car and fired several shots at him. The victim is recovering.
  • A suspect who fired dozens of shots at Detroit Police officers, turned himself into the police in Tennessee. The incident began when Detroit Police showed up from a 911 call where the suspect was attacking his girlfriend.
  • On Detroit’s west side, a two 41-yer-old women got into a knife fight at an adult foster center at midnight, one of them passed away from her injuries.
