After extensive claims of turning around the DMC hospitals for a lack of cleanliness and sterile surgery tools, the federal government performed a recent inspection. Two of Detroit’s hospitals still failed – meaning they’ll be ineligible for ANY Medicare patients. There were building safety issues, significant nursing care deficiencies, and more.

The City of Detroit is desperately trying to overturn a $3.5 million verdict they just lost. A man with a name similar to a felon was arrested in a case of mistaken identity. Marvin Seales tried to correct the Fugitive Apprehension Team and detectives for days but no one would listen to him, they said his ID was fake. After more than 2 weeks in jail, the Detroit Police finally determined that he looked NOTHING like the fugitive they were after. Detroit’s attorney argued that it is too much money because he wasn’t beaten. If I were the judge, I would double the award with that argument…

There was a confirmed case of deadly German measles (rubella) at the Detroit Auto Show this year. An unvaccinated man from out-of-state attended the show, according to the CDC. Speaking of the Detroit Auto Show that just finished – attendance was down 5% from last year – possibly because of all the car manufacturers that have permanently pulled out of Detroit’s Show for bigger shows. The largest shows are: Frankfurt, Shanghai, Geneva, Paris, Chicago, and Tokyo.

• At noon last Sunday, a witness spotted a man being thrown out of a moving car on Detroit’s Monte Vista north of Schoolcraft. By the time paramedics arrived, he had died from injuries from being thrown.
• A shooting suspect confronted a 20-year-old at a west-side Detroit gas station. The suspect then pulled a gun and pointed it at the young man. The young man pushed the gun away and ran. The suspect then went to the young man’s car, opened the hood and started firing shots at the engine and tires. The suspect, from Southfield, was arrested and charged with a long list of felonies.
• The guy that shot and killed a 3-year-old in an SUV going to show in Detroit turned himself in to Detroit Police. It turns out, he thought the SUV cut him off and he got made and fired one shot at the vehicle.
• A 51-year-old woman’s body was found at her Detroit home; police are investigating because there was also a small fire.
• An 81-year-old Detroit was killed in a Hit & Run at Livernois and McNichols. An SUV ran a stoplight at 7pm, killing the man, and never stopped.
• A 36-year-old was shot and killed in his Detroit home, Police are searching for the two suspects caught on his exterior surveillance camera.
• After sundown, a car with its lights off stalked another car on 8 Mile Rd, then opened fire on the other vehicle – both passengers of the other vehicle are in serious condition.
• Detroit Police were called for an assault at a tiny bar called The Alibi. It turns out the assault was committed by a drunk Detroit cop, who had his firearm (which is illegal).
• Detroit Police arrested a man at his Detroit home for robbing a McDonald’s at knifepoint.
• An Ann Arbor bus driver taking young children to Detroit (for some interactive event) accidentally clipped another car once he arrived in Detroit and broke its side mirror. When the bus driver stopped to investigate, the people from that car ran into the bus and beat the driver until he was unconscious – all caught on video So the young kids are sitting alone in a bus with an unconscious driver. I blame the parents of the children – what in the hell were they thinking?
