Detroit Realities #749

Not far from I-96 and Poplar, fire fighters put out a fire in a field that turned out to be a burning body. Detroit Police discovered the fire and are investigating.

67-year-old Donald McDonald was just sentenced to 5 years of probation for embezzling $25,000 from the Lincoln Park Moose Lodge, where he was a treasurer. Wow – in Detroit, you don’t even go to jail for grand theft! That is a great deterrent

Wayne County failed to collect DNA evidence from 425 criminals – in violation of state law. Defendants convicted of felonies are supposed to offer a cheek swab to run against past and future crime scenes that are unsolved.

Tamara Green was a single mother and stripper, famous for working crazy parties at the Manoogian Mansion for Mayor Kilpatrick when his wife was out of town. She was murdered shortly afterward, someone sprayed bullets into the car she and her boyfriend were in 15 years ago. Both were struck multiple times. Her lawyer’s law firm just put up a $100,000 reward for new information leading to an arrest.

Detroit Police are investigation a mass theft of vehicles at a Chrysler Plant on N. Jefferson.

  • A 31-year-old Detroiter was shot in his thigh by his cousin, who fled. The injured man tried to drive himself to the hospital, but he crashed his car into a parked car. He is now in critical condition.
  • On Halloween, there was a triple shooting of 3 teens, ages 15-16, and one of them passed away. The home shooting took place on Langholm Street, Detroit Police are searching for 2 older suspects that fled the scene. Neighbors say, “It is pretty rough around here, we’re immune to shootings in the area. It is disheartening that they should be trick-or-treating.”
  • An off-duty Detroit Police Officer was arrested after an altercation at a wedding where he was intoxicated while in possession of a firearm. Police are investigating whether she fired her weapon.
  • By Livernois and Michi8gan Avenue, two people got into a fight and shots were fired when a man leaving an adjacent area realized that he had been shot in the leg.
  • A suspect of a triple murder in Pennsylvania was just arrested – in Detroit. 19-year-old Anthony Cooper of Harrison Township was arrested by Federal Marshalls, and he’ll be extradited to PA.
  • Just north of Mt. Clemens, a man attempted to abduct a 12-year-old girl. The middle-aged man, who looked homeless, followed her and then tried to grab her when she ran to a nearby business.
  • On Detroit’s east side, a 24-year-old man was murdered and his 19-year-old female companion was injured from a hail of bullets as they passed out fliers for a non-profit organization to get people to vote. It is believed that the man had a prior argument with the murderer. The victim is the 307th homicide in Detroit for the year.
  • 3 women between 19 and 20-years old were charged in a fatal Hit & Run. They had an online feud with the victim and are being charged with 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, and tampering with evidence.
  • A 64-year-old woman at a Detroit bus stop accepted a ride from a man offering her a ride. He pulled out a gun and raped her at gunpoint, robbed her, and after several hours, let her out on Grand River.
  • Just west of Detroit in Westland, 48-year-old Daniel Chapman was charged with armed robbery (of a pizza shop), assault with intent to do great bodily injury by strangulation, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
  • Two 31-year-old men were charged in a violent attack on a bowling alley employee in Roseville, one of the men was additionally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (throwing a barstool and smashing the employee’s head with a bowling ball). The two men were unruly, disturbing others, and the employee asked them to leave – which prompted the attack.
  • In Detroit West (Ypsilanti), two 20-year-olds ran their car into a ditch to avoid shots being taken at them by an unknown assailant. No one was injured and police have no leads.
  • Next to Detroit in Dearborn, a home burglar set the home on fire and destroyed it as he left to remove evidence. Dearborn Police quickly arrested the man with stolen items and burned clothing.
  • Detroit’s Church of the Messiah was broken into this week. The burglar destroyed the front door to gain access and left the main office in shambles looking for valuables or money.
