Charise Woods is a 13-year-old Detroiter. She just qualified to represent Michigan at the World Youth Chess Championship in Greece this week. She will compete against 600 players from around the world. When she was 8-years-old, she stomped Mayor Duggan in a match, who had played a lot when he was young. Duggan said, “She’s 8, so I was sandbagging until I saw her take my bishop and was thinking 3 moves ahead. By then it was too late.”

The Detroit Police Major Violators Dept. and Gang Intel arrested 2 people and seized $17 million in drugs. The drugs, along with weapons and cash, were captured at 2 business locations in Detroit and two homes in W. Bloomfield.

Nearly $500,000 in drug money was seized by the Detroit Police at a check-cashing business and the non-descript storefront next door. They were openly selling marijuana without any licensing, approvals, and as if it were already a recreational marijuana state law passed. They also found heroin and fentanyl. Police say there are several more operations like this that they will be raiding soon.

Within 1 hour, 2 men in separate incidents were shot on Detroit’s Linwood. A 22-year-old was driving when he heard gunshots and realized he had been hit; he’s listed in temporary serious condition. A 65-year-old man was entering his home when he was shot (ankle and arm) in a drive-by.

Community leaders, activists, and academic experts are searching for solutions to the homicide rate of young black men in Detroit. They claim the root cause is:

• Access to guns
• High poverty rate
• Lack of educational opportunities

This is utter nonsense. All over the state and country there are very poor rural areas where everyone has a rifle. What educational opportunities are missing? If these are “leaders,” they will sadly push for crazy laws that have the opposite effect of their intention. Britain banned guns so now stabbings and acid attacks are a horrific epidemic; this has escalated to a worse murder rate than the U.S. today. The root cause is always the culture, not any inanimate object.

• The ATF just announced a $5,000 reward for a tip on the Mosque firebombing in Detroit last month. They have a sketch of the suspect and his van, but no leads.
• A 40-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen in his bed by 2 assailants wearing dark clothing.
• A drunk driver was arrested for rear-ending a State Trooper in Detroit on I-94 near Van Dyke.
• A 44-year-old Detroiter was robbed of his cash and designer sunglasses at a gas station on 7 Mile Road, at 4:00 in the afternoon. He was pumping gas when a Lincoln pulled up, rolled down his window, pointed a gun and demanded his possessions.
• There are so many murders in Detroit that 7 more Detectives were added to the city’s Homicide section last month. Plus a new support squad so investigators can continue working on cases as new ones arrive daily.
