A Las Vegas man was arrested on outstanding charges alleging he took part in a gang-related retaliatory attack that resulted in the fatal shooting of a rival gang member and beating of another.

Authorities arrested Troy Dean Stinnett, 41, on outstanding charges that allege he took part in the June attack at Torchy’s Briar Patch, 1111 S. 124th East Ave. Homicide detectives allege Stinnett, a reported member of the Hell’s Lovers Motorcycle Club, fired a .45-caliber pistol during the fight. Police investigators “determined the bullet that killed (James Mitchell)” was of the same caliber, according to an affidavit.

James Mitchell, 49, and another person, both reportedly members of Thunderguards Motorcycle club, were attacked on June 3 at the bar. The attack was reportedly retaliation after Mitchell and the other person allegedly assaulted a then-prospective member of Hell’s Lovers.

Five alleged members of motorcycle gang now face murder charges in slaying of rival gang member

The earlier fight stemmed from the two Thunderguards members trying to take the club vest from Kevin Fields, the Hell’s Lovers prospect, according to a previous story. Stinnett is one of seven people charged with second-degree murder for Mitchell’s death. Kenneth Ray Walters III, 40; Kevin Lee Fields, 45; Mark E. Alexander, 48; Dwayne Anthony Arceneaux, 44; Leon Anthony Harris, 47; and Eddie Dron Veal, 42, are charged also with second-degree murder.

All seven are also charged with aggravated assault and battery and a gang-related offense. Stinnett and Veal are also charged with firearms-related offenses.

The June 3 altercation, described by some as a brawl, was intended to be a one-on-one fist fight between Mitchell and a rival gang member, according to the affidavit. Fields told police that he called Walters, the president of the Oklahoma chapter of Hell’s Lovers, and asked for help after the altercation in which Mitchell and another allegedly tried to take Fields’ vest. Walters arrived with 10 to 15 men the next day and the group confronted Mitchell and the other Thunderguards members at the Briar Patch, investigators state in the affidavit.

Mitchell was shot and killed during the ensuing fight, and the other victim was beaten unconscious with at least one unknown weapon. Fields told police he fled on his motorcycle and didn’t see the shooter. The surviving victim later said Walters was supposed to arrive at the bar for a fistfight with Mitchell.

Arceneaux allegedly identified Stinnett as one of the Hell’s Lovers members who traveled to Tulsa and was present at the homicide. Hours after the homicide, Texas law enforcement officers stopped Stinnett while he was driving a vehicle. Texas authorities allegedly found three pistols and two batons.

Stinnett and Fields are being held in jail on $500,000 bonds. Veal, Walters and Harris have not yet been arrested on the outstanding charges, according to court records. Alexander posted $500,000 bond, and Arceneaux was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Stinnett is scheduled Nov. 15 for his initial court appearance. Arceneaux, Alexander and Fields are scheduled Nov. 29 for a preliminary hearing.
