Blind fate

Beveled in the corner for protection
Sipping on a drink I didn’t need
Awkwardly evading my reflection
While leafing through a book I couldn’t read

A farmer’s son cut loose among the city
In human form but not unlike King Kong
Holding strangers eyes and more’s the pity
Obvious to all I don’t belong

A popping drop and drag takes my attention
Out of sight her pace say’s she’s unsure
Encroaching till she gives my name a mention
Beautiful yet nervously demure

She smiled to let me see her disappointment
And told me that she couldn’t wait too long
I scrambled like a fly stuck in her ointment
Our mutual acquaintance had been wrong
