Being disingenuous/insincere is an art many of us have mastered without being totally aware. Saying or doing something, just for the Sake of it, has somewhat become an annoying norm.
How do you know you mean it?
Art evokes emotion. The beauty you find in it stirs your Heart. Not everyone looks at the same art piece and thinks “that’s beautiful” or “that touches my soul” different pieces look beautiful to different people.
And that’s exactly how I feel about being called beautiful. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is a meaningful proverb. It could even mean that the word “Beautiful” doesn’t describe me. It describes the emotions evoked in you, when looking at me.
So Don’t call me beautiful because I’m a woman and you think that’s what I want to hear.
Don’t call me beautiful because society expects you to.
Or because you want me to feel good about myself.
Don’t you dare call me beautiful because you want something from me.
Don’t even call me beautiful because someone.. even me.. asked you to.
Call me beautiful because looking at me causes your heart to move in ways unique to the sight of me. A rush of warmth should rapidly flood your entire body and the comfort you find in it should hinder you from moving the eyes that you have steadily fixated upon me. Find me: Intoxicating. Addictive. Intricate. Breathtaking. Let your heart sing an obscurely confound poem about me. Look at me, and see art.
Then call me beautiful.
