Touring Kubla’s school, I see a poster in the teacher’s lounge, hidden from the students:

Curiosity is the Cure for boredom.

There is no cure for curiosity.

I commit it to memory.  It’s my go-to line whenever Kubla says he’s bored.

One day we all go to see a movie with my brother and his family.  After the movie, we wait as my brother gets the car.  It’s taking forever.  The little ones are getting restless.

“I’m so bored!” Kubla wails.

“Curiosity is the cure for boredom,” I say.

“Why! Why am I so bored!?” he shouts.

“What a fascinating question.” I chase him around the revolving doors, shouting after him, “Maybe you’re bored because the movie turned your brain to mush and you can’t think of anything interesting until you get some exercise! Maybe you’re bored because no one was running, trying to catch you! Maybe you’re bored because you forgot how to play with your cousins that are waiting just like you!…..” 

The spell is broken.  We’re laughing again.  There is no cure for curiosity.
