Comments on the last statement made by Luisa Ortega

Without doubt the most important news that Venezuelans witnessed yesterday was the press conference offered by the VenezuelanAttorney General, Ms. Luisa Ortega Díaz. Why was so relevant the announcement made by Ortega Díaz? Because she denied the government version on repression issues, specifically the ones regarding to the killing of demonstrators, the use of the force by government forces and the prosecutions of the people that has been charged with crimes.

The statements made by Luisa Ortega are quite important for the eyes of the world. Amid a constant propaganda held by government claiming that the armed forces and the police are not directly involved with the violation of human rights, the words spoken by the Attorney General tear into pieces the version of the government speakers, and they are broken by the public ministry, i.e. the government entity in charge of the prosecutions according to Venezuelan laws.

So despite all the queries and doubts that may arise regarding Ms. Luis Ortega, right now, at present time, her words are helping to split the chavismo coalition, the only way in our view to end with Maduro’s regime.

After the conference press held by Luis Ortega, the former Attorney General Isaías Rodríguez, Pedro Carreño and Diosdado Cabello, among others, charged against her and blame that the Attorney General was biased and a traitor to the “revolutionary” values. If her words where part of a plan to paint with democracy the presidency of Maduro, these three guys and the discourse promoted by the government state–run media (that did not broadcast the conference of Ms. Ortega) constitute an overreaction in the show.

As we mentioned in the past, chavismo is a sort of various little islands with power disaggregated in each group. Luisa Ortega did not take this step alone. She was nervous because she knew what was at risk. The question is which faction of chavismo is she representing, which are their goals and, finally, if they are able to prevail beyond the remaining islands of power.
