I Feel Like I Never Left……

 I Feel Like I Never Left……

I never left.  Well, at least that’s what it feels like.

Left where?

The Riviera Maya.

Spending some time in Playa del Carmen, walking off a few pounds and adding them right back on via the local cuisine and beer.

I did have one accident with the beer so far.  I no longer can have limes.  The will burn my skin and my lips.  2nd degree burns, so the situation is quite uncomfortable.  Phytophotodermatitis is what it’s called.  I had stayed away from limes for the 2 months while I was back in the states and just thought maybe.  Well, I thought wrong.

Anyway, I’m just having a wonderful time.  I’ve never looked at myself as a tourist here, and I still don’t but I did do the tourist thing to pick up a few things for some friends (Hi, Larry and Laurie).  But close to two years here in Mexico, I’m treated as a tourist.

I had been looking forward to heading over to Cozumel for a day-long Jeep ride, but the weather has been very fickle and my time turned out to be shorter than expected so, next time.

I rented a car for a day, a Nissan March.  It’s a compact car that drives very well.  So, it was down to Tulum for a quick visit.   Tulum is always a good visit.  So much charm.  The shopping is wonderful, the food superb, and the margaritas are MAGNIFICIENT!!  Oh, let’s not forget about the Pina Colada  a lovely creamy tasty delight!

Next up was a trip to Caribbean seaside bar and grill that I’ve taken a slight likening to……..La Buena Vida! The FRIENDLIEST place in Akumal!!  And the food won’t disappoint along with the best service around.

Of course, there’s Puerto Aventuras……a place we called home for a year.  Sitting in a two-bedroom condo surrounded by jungle watching the monkeys swing thru the trees, the raccoons and Coati wondering onto my patio looking for crumbs and the innocent rat like Agouti which is completely harmless and lives at the bottom of the food chain.

The Caribbean laps upon the sandy shore where an afternoon of R&R with a few frozen concoctions can’t be beat.    And then for some serious hanging out, I’d take to Latitude 20…..best bartend around, Hi Roger!   A nice cozy intimate bar, great service and cold beverages, and an outdoor grill with some Fabulous Mexican Cuisine.

I had to leave.  That’s the sad part.  Well, I could’ve stayed, but I couldn’t Travel probably for the remainder of the year due to my renewal of my residency and their workflow.  So, I had to petition the government to dismiss my residency application.  That was the easiest thing to do with the Mexican government!

I thought maybe I’d want to settle here and travel from here, but I don’t need a place to settle down to in order to travel.

So, now it’s some brief stays in various places of the U.S. and onward to Europe starting with Portugal.  Maybe a short visit back to Mexico before heading to Europe, we’ll see.

Back to my planning…

Peace, love, and beaches,

John
