Foodie Friday: Disney Eats!

I was in Disney last week! One of the best parts of Disney World, for me, is all the delicious food! So, I thought I’d give you another update on all the delicious things at Disney World.

My last two posts focused more on restaurants, this post will be… everything.

Let’s go day by day.

Day 1: Hollywood Studios

First and foremost, it was pouring the entire day! The plan was to get off the plane, get to the hotel and then to the park right away, which we did. By the time we got to the park we were starving so we hit Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner. I got the pulled pork mac and cheese and the boyfriend got the chili cheese dog, which was humongous! The mac and cheese was really satisfying for the cold, rainy day that it was.

For Dinner we went to the Hollywood Brown Derby. I had the Pork Three Ways and it was excellent, I would not hesitate to order it again. The boyfriend had the Pan-Seared Black Grouper. He said the fish was very good, but the lobster was just okay. For dessert we had the Grapefruit Cake, Double Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee and Banana-Toffee Cake, all were very good. The Banana-Toffee Cake is probably my favorite, but the Grapefruit Cake is so unique that I have to get it lol

Day 2: Magic Kingdom

No rain this day! It was a very nice 79 degrees. We got to the park in the afternoon, hit a bunch of rides and then decided to get something to eat before the parade. Now, I was hoping to have the pork shank at Gaston’s Tavern, but to my dismay, they didn’t have it anymore! Only pastries, so we grabbed two Le Fou’s Brews and went looking for some waffle sandwiches that were supposed to be at Sleepy Hollow. But, again, to our dismay, they only had sweet things! So we retreated back to Frontierland and ran to the first place we saw, which was Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe. We grabbed some okay nachos, met a nice family to share a table with and ate with a view of the parade. I’d probably stick with a turkey leg next time.

For dinner we made our way to California Grill in the Contemporary Resort. This is a pretty fancy place! It’s up on the 15th floor with a view of Magic Kingdom, they even have an observation deck where you can watch the fireworks from. You may want to wear something not fancy, but not too casual. Most of the men were in polo shirts, and the prices match the dress code.

We started off with some drinks, I had the Santa Monica Cider, which was pretty good and he had the Classic Sidecar, which was excellent. For dinner I had the Wagyu Beef Strip Loin, and it was fantastic. It comes with a celery root puree, spring vegetables and a truffle emulsion.  I never have beef when I’m on vacations, I usually stick to duck and pork, but this was something special. It comes with a hefty price tag, but it was well worth it. The boyfriend had the Oak-Fired Bison Strip Loin, which was good. The asparagus that comes with it is massive! Probably some of the best asparagus we’ve ever had lol. Nothing on the dessert menu tickled our fancy so we skipped it and headed back to Magic Kingdom for fireworks and Ice Cream. I had my heart set on a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich, but we couldn’t find a cart so we got a Dole Whip instead. I’ve never had a Dole Whip and always wanted to try one, but was kind of meh about it when we actually got to Disney, especially since the boyfriend does not like pineapple. But he really wanted to get it, so we did, and guess who took two bites and realized he didn’t like it? And so who had to eat it? You probably guessed correctly on both of those. So my first experience with a Dole Whip… lots of pineapple at first then a weird bland-ish finish. Not my favorite, probably wouldn’t get one again.

Day 3: Epcot

We started our day at Disney Springs, where my goal was to get my butt to the Ganachery! And we did just that.

We got a box of 9 chocolates: 2 Madagascar Vanilla, 2 Egyptian Sea Salt, 2 Chipotle, 2 Coffee, 1 Passion Fruit. The Coffee was my favorite, it was milk chocolate and a little sweet for my taste, but it went perfectly with the mocha I was drinking. All the other ones were dark chocolate and they were very good as well, I usually prefer dark chocolate to milk. I also bought three bars to take home, I chose the three dark chocolate bars: the Disneyland Paris, which is filled with salted caramel, the Disney World which is flavored with Florida Oranges, and the Goofy, which has pop rocks in the bar. I’ve tasted all of them and they’re all fantastic. Definitely cannot wait to go back for more!

We actually got lucky and arrived in Disney in the middle of the Flower and Garden Festival, which features a bunch of outdoor kitchens throughout the World Showcase in Epcot, so we had lots of tasty things on our list that we wanted to try. Our first stop was to the Cider House in the UK for the beer and cider flight.

I think the pear cider was my favorite, and surprisingly, the boyfriend really liked the cherry. The beer was good, but the blueberry cider was a little medicinal… I drank it all anyway lol.

Then we headed over to the The Smokehouse: Barbecue and Brews for some beef brisket burnt ends hash and a blackberry moonshine frozen lemonade. Both were really good. The hash was amazing, we could’ve eaten two each.

Then we made our way to Germany to Karamel Kuche, where we got a caramel bacon square! It’s literally a square of caramel with bacon in it, covered in chocolate. Super rich and sweet, so we only ate half of it (mind you, it’s not big) and kept going on our eating tour.

We were actually getting pretty full and didn’t want to fill up too much before dinner, so we made our last stop of the day at Lotus House in China for a gaoli beef bun. Definitely a good decision. The beef bun was amazing! Again, could’ve eaten at least two each.

Dinner that night was at the Rose and Crown. First things first… beer and cider! I had a Cider and Black and the boyfriend had the Boddingtons English Pub Ale, which was really good. For an appetizer we got the meat pie, which is awesome. For dinner I had, my favorite, Bangers and Mash and he had the Shepherd’s Pie, and of course, for dessert we had Sticky Toffee Pudding! A great way to end a delicious day.

Day 4: Animal Kingdom

We had a late start that day, so basically woke up and went straight to lunch lol, so I didn’t think we’d be eating at the park. After we got there and hit some rides, we finally stopped for that Micky ice cream sandwich! And it was glorious.

After a few more rides and jungle treks, we actually did get hungry and even though it was about an hour and a half until dinner, we decided to grab a snack so we headed to Harambe Market. We got the Beef and Pork Sausage, which is basically like a giant corn dog, and when I say giant, I mean giant. The corn batter is curried, but I didn’t notice any strong curry flavor, it was definitely tasty. It also comes with a green papaya slaw and black-eyed pea, corn and tomato salad, all of which was delicious. We were definitely glad to get one, because it was a decent amount of food and easily fed both of us.

Dinner was at Jiko in Animal Kingdom Lodge. I’ve never been there before so I was super excited. We started with some drinks, I had the African Rum Rummer, which tasted a lot like bubblegum… a little too sweet and bubblegumm-y for me, but I drank it lol. The boyfriend got the Tusker Lager, which was good. The bread they bring out is a multigrain roll, you get three of them and we ate them all! They were so good. Even after all that bread we got the Bobotie Rolls as an appetizer, the filling is pork (even though the menu online says duck) and they come with a cucumber raita and green mango atjar… amazing. It was so good, again, we ate everything. For our dinners we both went with the Lamb Shank. It came with goat cheese mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and an apple cider glaze. OMG guys. It was so amazing. The entire dish was excellent, I’d definitely order it many times over. It is a huge portion though! Beware of that, it was really hard to finish, I left a lot of my sides and the boyfriend couldn’t even finish all his lamb (weak). But we’re troopers and went ahead and ordered dessert, which was the Ghanaian Chocolate and Kenyan Coffee Pot de Crème.

It’s super rich, delicious, but really rich. We sat there for quite some time, with two cups of coffee each, before we were able to finish it. By the time we were done, we couldn’t move. Definitely ate the most here. When they bring the check, they bring you little coconut macaroons. I was sad that I couldn’t eat one, but I was so darn full! I did take one bite for good measure though lol

After that crazy, delicious, super filling meal we couldn’t even contemplate walking around another park, we were thinking of going to Hollywood Studios to see the fireworks because we missed them on the first rainy day. But we could hardly move and decided to call it an early night.

Day 5: Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios

Sigh, this was our last day, so we had to make the most of it. We started our day at Magic Kingdom hitting all the rides that we couldn’t get on before. While we had time in between we grabbed two more Le Fou’s Brews, because they are so delicious, and I finally realized that they make them look like beers.. I was a little slow on that.

After Magic Kingdom we headed to Epcot to eat some more tasty things in the World Showcase. We started with a strawberry margarita in Mexico and made our way back to Lotus House for another amazing gaoli beef bun. Then we went to Hanami in Japan for the beef teriyaki udon, which was really really good. We were debating about getting some duck at Fleur de Lys in France, but it was so hot and far away that we decided to skip it and go for dessert. One of my main goals at the World Showcase was to get some School Bread in Norway, and that’s what we did! And they were so nice that the guy helping us even went to the back to get us the biggest, freshest one!

He was amazing and so was the School Bread! If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a cardamom bun filled with vanilla creme custard and topped with glaze, toasted coconut and more custard, and it’s so good. We actually want to try to make it!

After all that food we needed a break before dinner so we went on Ellen’s Energy Adventure, because it’s 45 minutes of sitting down lol.

Once our relaxing ride through the universe of energy ended, we headed to the Coral Reef Restaurant for dinner. We made this a super quick dinner because we were seated quite a bit later than expected and we still wanted to make the Hollywood Studios fireworks. So, we skipped appetizers and went straight to mains. I had the Pork Tenderloin, which used to be pork belly. It was good, the belly was better though. The boyfriend had the Pan-seared Verlasso Salmon, which comes with mushroom risotto. He said it was very good. Since we were cutting it close, we also skipped dessert, then paid and walked very briskly to catch a bus to Hollywood Studios.

Luckily for us, the bus was standing there waiting when we left Epcot. Once we got to Hollywood Studios we had an hour to kill so we grabbed some Mickey Ice Cream bars for dessert and went to meet Chewbacca! That was my boyfriend’s goal, he really wanted to meet his hero and I’m glad we had time to. After that milestone, we found a good spot for fireworks in front of the Great Movie Ride!

And after the fireworks, our vacation came to an end. It was a lot of fun, and as usual, I can’t wait to go back.

But before this post ends… I have to give an honorable mention to one of our favorite places… Las Ventanas at Coronado Springs for their awesome breakfasts and crazy good grilled cheese!
