Going green for housecleaning and basic hygiene

My entire family suffers from Allergies. From skin to internal issues. Luckily none involve immediate medical attention. They do cause intense burning, itching, flaking, headaches...well, you get the idea. Being that our sons have autism and sensory processing disorder, I want to get rid of as many chemicals in my home as possible. If I can't control nature to help ease their suffering, then I can most certainly control what exposure to chemically induced allergies we have at home.

First start was to see what all products I need to buy in order to start. Interesting how I already have almost all of it. Problem? I hate the smell. No, really. I can't stand it. I have an increased sense of smell, so the scent of vinegar causes immediate headaches and my nose burns. Why? Sensitivity to the smell only. Solution? Essential oils!

I have now officially bought my starter set. I'm already in love and haven't even started making my batches yet. When I do, I will blog about each cleaning solution, the pros and cons, and will include the comparison to the old commercially produced cleaner I used.

This is the set I bought. You can purchase from them directly at Edens Garden. This is the Best of the Best set.

It was shipped via USPS and when I opened the flat rate box, my heart went pitter patter. My senses were in heaven. Each oil is concentrated and definitely stronger than what you would expect. Very little goes a long way. The lavender smells like fresh lavender flowers. Not the commercially produced lavender scented candles, baby bath wash, etc. The commercially produced scent is much milder in comparison.
As I start really working with these, then I will blog about the blends I make and I've used them. What worked, what didn't. One of my big goals is to help control Dog Odor. We have a Boxer that suffers severe allergies. He's recently developed an allergy to his food. What happens with dog odor when the dog is allergic to their food? They smell really bad. It's like someone suffering severe B.O. after not showering for a month. That's within the hour after he was just bathed. Poor boy. Yes, I'm already working on changing his food. In the mean time, while we are going through that process, I'm going to find a natural spray for his coat to help reduce the bad odor. I will also be working with a spray to help my anxiety ridden female dogs. One is a min-pin/beagle mix that suffered a traumatic injury resulting in the loss of a leg. Her mental state has never been the same.  The other is a Staffordshire and she is afraid of all loud noises, weather (high winds, rain, lightening, thunder). I really do not like the idea of giving my dogs man made medicine to help with their anxieties. Hopefully I can come up with an aromatherapy for them to help ease their fears and anxiety attacks.

Yes, I am a firm believer in aroma therapy. It really does work. Certain smells increase excitement, activity level, then some just brings calmness, awareness, and for those that suffer focusing issues...there are aromas to help maintain concentration, focus and memory.
