Wanderlust tales

A compendium of fun, odd and awkward experiences from around the world

Traveling is one of those few experiences in life that, by its very nature, nurtures. Either by humbling your inner arrogance, shocking you out of your comfort zone, confronting your system of beliefs against one that greatly differs from yours, or quite simply by putting you in Awkward situation; when you Travel you are placing yourself in a privileged position to learn.

I cannot say that I am extremely well traveled; as there is plenty of then world I am yet to see. Instead I prefer to think of myself as someone who has had the privilege of being to a few places in my very own style. Throughout my journeys I’ve had a variety experiences: some great, some good, some boring, some unpleasant and others, just plain fucking weird. It has been these experiences that have made my travels memorable and what have taught me a thing or two not only about the place I Happened to be in at the time, but more often than not, also about myself.

In the coming days, and weeks and months, I’ll be walking the memory lane trying to remember as many of these Stories as I possibly can, write them down and share them with you. These stories will rarely exceed more than a page or two, but they hold an immense value to me, more than you could possible imagine, and are in more ways than one part of the essence of why I love to travel: whether it was facing a moment of difficulty in a foreign land, being graced by the kindness (and sometimes unkindness) of strangers, spending (literally) the night on the street, or meeting amazing, peculiar and bizarre characters, these experiences transcended the typical tourist lifestyle and allowed me to live, see, taste, and sense, even for a brief period of time, a truer reality of a place I happened to set foot on at a given point in time, its people,  its culture, and hopefully, bring something back with me to build upon.

As always, I hope you enjoy reading this words as much I did when I experienced them.

 Post Scriptum

Our first story (to be published in a subsequent post) takes place in the remote lands of the Far East, specifically, in South Korea. For the time being I’ll give you nothing but the title, hoping only to garner your attention and interest: The Pornographer on the train.
