Calming Lavender & Chamomile Goat Milk Soap

Want to make your own soap, but afraid it'll be too challenging? Our Calming Lavender & Chamomile Goat Milk Soap recipe is the perfect intro to soap making.

Making your own Soap may sound like a slightly daunting task. At least that’s what I thought before trying it. I love to try DIY recipes, especially when I can use my essential oils in them.

Here is what I found. When you use the pre-made soap base that you find at your local craft or natural foods stores, it cuts much of the work and time out of the process and you need only a few other ingredients to add into it.

Then, you can customize it and make it yours, using your favorite oils for their scent, or for their benefits.

This particular recipe uses the awesome scent combination of roman chamomile, which alone can sometimes be too strong, combined with lavender, and has a great smelling result that gives a calming effect.

I used smaller silicone molds with this recipe, to make individual, cute bars, that make a great gift when packaged together or also for favors for events. Put a few together in a pretty little dish in your guest bathroom or kitchen.

If you want a more traditional bar of soap, you can definitely choose a bar soap silicone mold to get that size and shape you're used to. You can also swap out essential oils if you want something more invigorating.

Grab my great, free guide on customizing essential oils in your homemade beauty products! It'll show you what oils to swap for your mood and skin type.

Making your own beauty products is so much fun. I hope you enjoy your goat's milk soaps. If you do, make sure to leave us a comment at the bottom of this post! We love hearing your stories.

Calming Lavender & Chamomile Goat Milk Soap

Supplies

  • 1 tray silicone molds in shape of your choice (I got my trays from IKEA)
  • 6 or 7 blocks goat milk soap base (this may vary if your molds are larger or smaller)
  • 1 tablespoon castile soap in lavender, or unscented if you prefer
  • 10 drops roman chamomile essential oil
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil (or add in a couple more if you chose unscented castile soap)

Directions

  1. First, chop up the soap base into the right amount of squares, depending on your molds. I cut them and then place on the top of the mold to help me guesstimate, and then place the cubes in a double boiler.
  2. Heat over medium heat in your double boiler, stirring frequently, until the soap base is melted.
  3. Now you may add in your castile soap and essential oils. Both oils are runny in consistency, so pour in your drops carefully so you don’t end up with twice as much as you need.
  4. The soap base will set up fast, so if it has started to thicken back up when you’re ready to pour, just pop it back on the double boiler for a couple of minutes and stir again before you begin the pouring.
  5. Now, pour into molds, filling as close to the top as possible without spilling it over.
  6. The last step is to allow the molds to cool down at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Feel the bottom middles of the molds and see if they are still warm. If they are, just let them cool a little bit longer before turning out your soaps. They do come out easily, leaving the molds nice and clean, which is really great for an easy clean up.
  7. Store your goat's milk soaps in an air tight container. They make great gifts!
