We rented My Little Pony: The Movie recently and, although I appreciate the use of the colon in the title, I can’t say I loved the movie. I can however say that the music in this movie was pretty great. Even though I’ve heard these songs about a million times now, I still like them. And one in particular spoke to me. Yes…a My Little Pony song spoke to me, I’m not ashamed. The song is called, Time to Be Awesome.

Here’s a little background on the song: Somehow the ponies end up on a pirate ship (you know, I was born on a pirate ship*) and the pirates work for someone called the Storm King who told them that if the ponies get onto the ship, they have to be thrown overboard. Full disclosure, this may not actually be the plot, my six year old had to explain it again to me just now. And I use the term plot loosely here.

Anyhoo, the main point of the scene is that the pirates work for the Storm King and are carrying out his orders. The ponies, trying to get out of being thrown overboard, tell the pirates that they should rise up and change their ways. They don’t have to work for that lousy Storm King, they should work for themselves and do what they love!

What Does it Mean?!

I’ve been in a rut at work. For like, a year and a half. I’m feeling like my best days are gone, and like things aren’t quite working out the way I thought they would. But I do feel a light inside, and I’m worried that if I don’t make a move, it’s going to get harder and harder to access it.

This blog has definitely helped get things reignited, and bullet journaling has got me drawing again, which is great. Now I have to work on the job front. I have to find a job that let’s me be Awesome. I officially started the hunt today, and am hoping to be in a new role by April. We’ll see how it goes. Until then I’ll keep listening to my inspiration, Rainbow Dash. Yeah, I said it.

It’s time to take the Storm King’s (or rather, my current job’s) orders and toss ’em, it’s time to let my colors fly, it’s time to be awesome!

*OK, I wasn’t actually born on a pirate ship. If you’re not familiar with the joke, hold your tongue outside of your tongue with your thumb and index finger, and say the words, “I was born on a pirate ship.” This got me in so much trouble when I was younger!
