Vampire Academy: the book series I won’t forget.

I have said on my about page that I LOVE BOOKS. I had expressed my love for k-pop on my previous blogs and now I’ll express what I feel for books.

I started to read novels when I was young. When I start to read a book, I will ignore everything and everyone around me for a day or two and will read the book continuously. But of course, there will always be favorites. Mine is the Vampire Academy book series.

Honestly, this is a YA (Young-Adult) book but why did I like love it?

First of all, I never really cared about age restrictions on movies or whatever. (For those who don’t know: I’m a teenage girl.) But what really made me love this Series is because of the character of the characters. All of them have charms. All of them are adorable. The main leads have perfect chemistry even if they are just fictional characters.

How did I know about this book series?

I first knew about the book series when I watched the movie adaptation of Vampire Academy in 2014. I found the story line interesting. I found out that it was based from a book series but did not bother to read it. After a few years, it was our summer vacation and I am looking for something good to do. I don’t know what happened but I suddenly remembered about Vampire Academy.

That is when it started. I started reading and ignoring everyone around me. The way the author wrote it is just perfect for my taste.

I loved Rose and Dimitri’s story. Rose’s dedication to protecting her best friend Lissa is just admirable. (I’ll stop here I don’t want to spoil anyone)

I fell in love with the story and the characters. I felt happy when they are happy, I shed tears when they’re sad (especially that scene in Spirit Bound (the fifth book in the series) if you know what I’m talking about).

While reading the six books I became very attached to the characters (especially to Rose) and don’t want to end their story. I repeated reading the series for about a couple of times but it just doesn’t fail to give me the feels every time. (I actually got so addicted that I posted a lot about it on my Instagram account.)

What is Vampire Academy about?

I’ll stop writing about how amazing the series is. I’ll talk about what the book series is about.

This is the synopsis of the first book according to my source:

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger…

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

There you go. Now you have a background about the series.

Now is about the main characters. According to our beloved wikipedia:

  • Rosemarie “Rose” Hathaway, the narrator. A dhampir teenager training to be a guardian at St. Vladimir’s Academy, Rose has a spirit bond with Lissa as a result of being brought back to life by Lissa’s magic. Rose falls in love with her older mentor Dimitri.
  • Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir, a Moroi, the last of the royal Dragomirs, and Rose’s best friend. A user of a rare form of magic (spirit), she can bring the dead back to life, heal, and use compulsion. She maintains a bond with Rose throughout the majority of the series.
  • Dimitri Belikov, a twenty-four-year-old Russian dhampir and guardian. He is Rose’s primary love interest.
  • Christian Ozera, a Moroi and Lissa’s primary love interest. His parents willingly turned Strigoi, causing people to treat him with distrust.
  • Adrian Ivashkov, a Moroi spirit user who dated Rose.
  • Mia Rinaldi, a Moroi water user. Rose and Lissa’s enemy (and later, friend) at St. Vladimir’s Academy

Those are the characters that made the story what it was. You now know about the synopsis and the characters, but to create these elements of the story, we need an author.

The author is none other than the beautiful Richelle Mead! According to wikipedia:

Richelle Mead is a bestselling American fantasy author. She is known for the Georgina Kincaid series, Vampire Academy, Bloodlines and the Dark Swan series.

What’s next?

The series ended happily (spoiler). But after that, what happens?

Everything doesn’t end there.

*DRUM ROOOLLS*

We have the Bloodlines series! It is the spin-off book series of the vampire academy book series.

The setting is in the same world as the vampire academy. But the story focuses on Sydney Sage and Adrian Ivashkov.

Here is a short synopsis of the fist book in the series:

The first book in Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive—this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone’s out for blood.

And the characters:

  • Sydney Sage – an Alchemist and the main protagonist of the Bloodlines series
  • Adrian Ivashkov – a royal Moroi Spirit user who was once Rose Hathaway’s boyfriend
  • Jill Mastrano – Vasilisa Dragomir’s half-sister and a water user, bonded to Adrian
  • Eddie Castile – Jill’s Guardian
  • Lee Donahue – Clarence Donahue’s son
  • Keith Darnell – the Palm Springs Alchemist, in charge of supervising Sydney
  • Micah Vallence – Jill’s classmate at Amberwood
  • Abe Mazur – Rose Hathaway’s father
  • Laurel – Jill’s rival
  • Clarence Donahue – a Moroi in Palm Springs

Both series made me feel different emotions. They also made me travel places without going anywhere.

Here is the list of the books under each series:
