I can't believe that it was just yesterday for the first time in fifteen years, and with the help of my good friend Lizzy, to finally re-do my CV.


We had such a lovely evening.  We decided to do a little picnic, and Lizzy has recently become vegan, so prior to her coming over to my house, I popped to trusty Tescos to get some bits and pieces including some bakewell tarts and crisps, suitable for vegans, and I tried them myself and I thought they were really nice.   We sat out in the garden at the table in the lovely bright sunshine and sat chatting and working on my C.V.   It was awesome.





It's strange to think that in six months time, I will be leaving my job, and not by my own choice.   I have never been made redundant before.  When I still think of House Of Fraser as a whole, I still see it as this really big, popular company.   And I suppose it still is, but now it seems a lot bigger on the web than it is a physical store. 


I think it's definitely become more real for me now that my C.V is pretty much completed, and I say that because I do still need to type it up properly, it's only written in long hand at the moment.  Lizzy is training to be a teacher now in her line of work, so she had lots of useful tips on how to do a C.V.   The easiest way for me to explain this to you guys is simply 'keep it short and punchy'.




Here are a few other things you might find helpful.


1) Using bullet points.

2) Keep your sentences and paragraphs short.

3) List all (and I do mean all) of your achievements. 




I have been in retail since I was 16, but I have also worked the hospitality sector, because I used to work in a hotel as a housekeeper.   I also have an NVQ level 2 in Retail Operations, which I completed at House Of Fraser quite early on in my career there.  I also have a Distinction Diploma in Media Studies.


It's all relevant.



Like I said, it's very strange. I thought I was going to be working for House Of Fraser for a fair few years more than this.  But things change.   Internet shopping has become so much more popular over the years.  One of the problems House Of Fraser have had recently is their internet returns.   Well, we certainly have.  For example: Today, I served a lady who had bought over £700 worth of clothes from the web and wanted to return all of it bar one dress.   The return came to £620!   Now, most of that clothing will be returned to the web, unfortunately it always seems to take a ridiculous amount of time for that return to be taken off the store's figures. But what can we do!   It's just the way things are now.






It has made me wonder about whether or not I want to stay in retail myself.   I am only 34....Ok, 35 in August, so I could re-train.  Or I could just get a little part time job stacking shelves in Tesco... I don't really know.  I have starting looking at what's out there obviously, and now that my CV is practically done I will be pretty much ready to go when the time comes.   It's always good to be prepared whatever it is you decide to do.
