Google Trends Lessons

Many times throughout the day, millions of people, sit at their computer screens and look for something online. All of the data that you search for is staked and indexed behind the screens. We talked about Google trends as one way to look into Google's database for common terms using Google Trends (http://nickstockton.blogspot.com/2018/05/google-trends-window-into-googles-world.html). But, once you see the trends, how do you use the trends. How can you use the data within Google to put together stories from Google search, YouTube, and Google News? That's where you need some training and Google has the training available for you. That's what we're talking about on the blog.

A few weeks ago, I was talking about the Google News Initiative and how they are working with newspaper publishers to reduce fake news (http://nickstockton.blogspot.com/2018/03/google-news-initiave.html). Google Trends Lessons fall into that category. Below is a picture of the front page, showing the available lessons.

Google Trends Lessons Main Page (1)

Each lesson has a front page (see below). With each video, there is a downloadable PDF covering the lesson.

Google Trends Lesson (1)
Currently, there are four lessons available for Google Trends:

  • Google Trends: Understanding the Data
  • Google Trends: See what's trending across Google Search, Google News, and YouTube.
  • Google Trends: Improving your search results
  • Google Trends: Data visualizations usage and guidelines

Conclusion

Google is great at providing individual data points. The "Trends" website tries to group those individual points together as data. Learning how "Trends" operate helps you to better utilize the data from it and make better insights concerning why the data is what it is. Thank you for reading the blog!
