Cookies, Crumbs, and Candy: Garbage and other Things left under the Kid's car seat

BLUF: (Bottom Line Up Front): Trying to clean out a Kids Car seat takes guts, two bottles of glass cleaner, and determination like no other. Today's story is a brave parent who has to clean out their car and especially the forbidden zone ... underneath your child's car seat!

Introduction:

If you give a kid a Cookie, they eat it and say thank you. If you give a kid a cookie in a car seat, a quarter of the cookie winds up in their mouth, and the rest of it winds up in the car seat. If you give the kid enough cookies int he car seat, you need to take your car to the carwash. Maybe it's the smell? Maybe the dried mud outside of your door? Perhaps your floor is covered with bread crumbs, leaves, and other things that come from the outside? Regardless of the reason, your car is dirty!

Car washing entirely different experience if you have young kids. No, washing your car is the same process. The inside of your car cleaning takes a new meaning. As you're there, knee deep in the back seat with the vacuum hose trying to pull things out of the car seat, try the rationalize it like this:
  • It's a treasure hunt:

You will find stuff under the car seat which will make you think, "How did that get there?". It could be movie tickets, year old wagon wheels (wagon wheels are snacks for kids who do not have a full set of teeth). Oh, toys will be there too, but not the condition that you remember them.
  • It's a search and rescue mission:

Sometimes, you'll find all sorts of stuff under the car seat that will make you say WTF (to keep this a rated G blog, I can not go into detail about what WTF means). Lifting the child's seat is much like raising the Ark of the covenant (the movie version Raiders of the Lost Ark). True, your face might melt off due to the amount of "leftovers" or the smell, but things your kid has gotten a hold of (like a pair of your wife's earrings) that she has been missing for a month suddenly appear. One time, I found a family of four under the car seat. It was four small spiders, who promptly thanked me, and made their way into the car's interior.
  • It's a Superfund cleanup site:

Literally, some leftovers that are under the car seat will appall you. It is not the dried pieces of food and candy which are easy to pick up, but the half melted fragments of Jolly Ranchers, and other food materials, which have plastered themselves to the seat. Breakout the bio-hazard suit, extra gloves, and a bucket of soap and water. Even though, the candy affixed to the seat might seem to be  "crazy glued" - just using soap and water will remove the candy and actually won't make any holes in the upholstery. Oh yeah, use Febreeze. Spray everything. Leave nothing untouched.
Conclusion:

You never know what you're going to find under the seat. Now, that the weather is getting cold, you might want to do one more cleaning before the first snow falls. Trust me. It is definitely worth your time!
