World cup 2018

The world cup is not my cup of tea, but as I haven’t been living in outer space for the past month, I know that France has won. Congratulations, I suppose?
Football has never been that interesting to me, so I try not to get very annoyed when every conversation at school is about Football, but sometimes I can’t avoid getting angry about it, when a sport comes first than human respect.
When Holland came to the finals against Spain in 2010; my father was following it, and I was on the side of the Dutch team (I’m half Dutch, half Catalan). There were two big parties in the city where one could go and see the final, so my family and I went to the Dutch one. They lost... So when we wanted to go home, we were literally humiliated for wearing orange shirts. We couldn’t go with the metro because all the Spaniards wouldn’t let us in, so we decided to go walking all the way home. When my dad went in to a bar to get some water, all drunk Spaniards started surrounding my mom and I yelling, throwing fireworks and insulting us for being on Holland’s side. That is something a seven year-old won’t forget very soon.
At school, I was talking with some guys about European politics and somehow we ended comparing Holland with Spain; so I told them I think Holland is better because it is more organized, cleaner, hasn’t had that much crisis the last few years and has better politics than Spain. Their answer to that? “Well, Spain is better, at least they won the world cup”. Oh yeah, sure: losing the world cup is worse than having thousands of homeless people and a lot of political issues, right?!
And one last thing: France has quite a lot of racist population with Marine Lepent, leader of Front Nationale, nearly being voted for president. Now I ask myself: how can someone be racist when they think immigrants take away their jobs and cause crisis but then adore dark-skinned football players because they won the world cup. I don’t think this is acceptable.
When did football become more important than human rights?
