Denis Wick 4AL

I've tried a few mouthpieces over the past few years and finally buckled down and bought a Denis Wick, the 4AL. I didn't buy the Heritage, gold plated, etc. just the standard model, but have been very pleased. I play a King 2280 horn and have found that with my already bright tone it just gives me the highlight and the concentration of air I want, still maintaining a good depth of sound. All around I don't think I'll switch mouthpieces, at least for a while, it's comfortable and seems to unlock my range and tonality and vibrato, accenting all with a beautiful sound and really giving the horn a bright yet deep and round tone, which helps because that was already the type of timbre I had, it's just that accent and the mouthpiece that seems to fit me absolutely perfectly. While I have messed with a Shilke 51D, Bach 5G, etc. that seem to play well for many people (or at least early on, before we get into these fancy newfangled ones with charts and holy cow) but they never gave me anything I wanted, and it was just a day and night difference! Just a testimony to how a mouthpiece can really make the difference (as well as hard work and practice, of course!)
