Hidden Gems: Ovacz

Hey everyone, it has been a while. I had to come back because I have recently heard one of the best mixtapes I've heard in a while. Hailing from the Bronx, is Ovacz and his mixtape: "Introspect". Introspect is 10 tracks of heaven to my ears. I have not heard something like this for a while. All ten tracks are relaxing and feature production from JCDC Studios to Decapitatah, this mixtape gives a revitalizing feeling back to the rap game. Ovacz spits true lyricism and wordplay for all ten tracks and has a dope cover. Let's break down each of the tracks shall we?

1. Introspect: This is just merely a intro to the mixtape. Produced by Jared Daniels, Ovacz speaks to his listeners about this curse that he was blessed with. He talks about what has become of society and how it affects the heart of a person. Ovacz sets the tone with this intro, and lets the listener know that they are about to witness deep thoughts.

2. Weed and Shoes (feat. JCDC): My favorite track off the mixtape. Produced by Vybe Beatz, the beat is very mellow and relaxed. The beat maintains this "coolness" for the whole track. Ovacz comes in over he beat ready to kill it. The cool, calm tone of Ovacz's voice compliments the beats own coolness. He spits about what feelings in his heart, not about weed and shoes as the title suggests. One thing that I noticed about the tone of the Ovacz, is that at one point he actually begins to rapidfire rap. The the hook comes in with a nice bass. A new voice comes in over the beat. This one is full of new energy and a different rap flow. This is JCDC. He goes in on the beat and gives an excellent and memorable verse. A mix between rapping fairly calmly and rapidfire flow, JCDC gives his own memorable performance over the beat.

3. High, Hello, Bye: This track, produced by Decapitatah, is a little more fast paced than the previous one. Ovacz shows versatility on this one. He proves to the listener that he is a true lyricist and also pretty damn good at rapidfire rapping. The beat is very smooth and calm. A perfect juxtaposition between the beat and the rapidfire rapping that Ovacz indulges in. Definitely a song that can be listened to over and over.

4. God's Son: The next track, produced by JCDC Studios, is the more personal track. Ovacz lets the listener into his life and what he went through during his life. A devout truster in God, Ovacz let's people feel that bond between him and God.

5. Barbados: This song is that one song that a listener to Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y would enjoy. Although much more lyrical than either one of those rappers, it truly is that one song that a person chills to and just relaxes. The beat is produced by Logik, and caters to one of the many flows of Ovacz. Definitely a very chilled out song.

6. Dead Man's Symphony: Produced by Clams Casino, this song is very unique. It opens up with a prayer, and continues this eery but soothing flow. This lyrics of this song speaks volumes to me. It reminds me that people change and you cannot change that. This track tells me that we have to change as a part of life. That is the only way we can move forward in life. Definitely one of my favorite tracks off the mixtape. Truly an amazing track.

7. Hollywood: This is the most upbeat track on the mixtape. The beat is produced by ThrityThree, and Ovacz avoids making a corny party song and makes a lyrical song that could be played anywhere. As previously stated Ovacz really shows that he can make a lyrical statement on any type of beat. From what I have seen, most rappers would take this beat and make a pretty boring party song. Good looks on this track.

8. Matrimony: Bizzytits on the beat for this one. This song is the one that most resembles something that Curren$y would do. A chill, relaxing track that most people would smoke to. This is considered the weed track on the mixtape, and even though I don't smoke, I still chill to this. You definitely can kick up your feet to this and relax with your boys. That is what I do anyway.

9. Stairwell: We are reaching the end of the mixtape and Ovacz is closing it out in style. This is song is produced by JCDC Studio and he did a great job with it. Me being from New York City as well, I feel as if this track gives me that cit-like vibe. I can just picture the NYC skyline in the distance while listening to this track. My second favorite track off this joint, it is definitely worth listening to. Give props to Ovacz for giving a truly lyrical track, this song demonstrates the amount of lyricism that he has up in the dome.

10: Ribbon in the Sky: Closing it out in style, that was Ovacz's mission. Let me just say, he accomplished it. Ovacz demonstrates an amount of lyricism and flow-versatility that is nonexistent in the rap game nowadays. The track is also produced by JCDC Studio, and he definitely handled it with style. One thing that I find amazing is not the verses that Ovacz spits, although they are amazing, it is actually the interview at the very end. Ovacz allows the listener one final entrance into why he does what he does. Getting on such a personal level as this is one that artists do not get into too often. Placing an interview at the end has been attempted and there have been more busts than successes. This is an amazing track and the interview at the end really makes it. Now that is what I call closing out in style.

In case none of you guys noticed, try clicking the names of the songs. Just saying. Now back to business. "Introspect" can only be described as a lyrical masterpiece. I do not have many issues with this mixtape. I am perfectly fine with the very minimal amount of features on this mixtape. It proves that there is definitely such a thing as quality over quantity. Instead of having weak features on every track, there is one great feature. The beats were really on point and complimented Ovacz's flow. That is another thing. Ovacz showed a great deal of versatility that is almost extinct in any genre of music. With every change of his flow, Ovacz maintained this high level of lyricism that definitely sets him apart from the rest. Thus, here is what you guys have been waiting for.... my review. I am setting a rubric in multiple categories that eventually leads to the average score. So let's do this:

Lyrics: 10/10
Beats: 8.5/10
Bumpability: 9/10
Versatility and Flow: 10/10
Length of Mixtape: 9/10

Overall Score: 9.3/10
