Continuing with my New Year’s resolution from January, I am listening to one new album every day in 2014! Here’s the list so far : ) Feel free to suggest an album that I should listen to in the comments section :)
February 1, 2014 Do You Feel The World? by Mike Evin
A friendly, sway-in-your-seat album. Great musicianship and full sounding arrangements without pomp.
February 2, 2014 The Ragged Bankers by The Ragged Bankers
Like the works of “The Boss” with a bit of a country bent, these are tunes for the everyman.
February 3, 2014 Farewell to Decorum by Hamish Moore & Dick Lee
Bagpipes and jazz? … It’s scaring the cat, but I think it’s fantastic! :)
February 4, 2014 Alright You Restless by AgesandAges
Reminds me a lot of Sam Roberts, but more voices, more clapping, and a little more experimental.
February 5, 2014 Dark Eyes by Half Moon Run
Full circle is magical with a Radiohead like feel to it… and the album as a whole has a mysterious quality to it. It’s inspiring to see that a single which was originally released and charting in 2012 is now getting more significant airplay 2 years later.
February 6, 2014 Nice, Nice, Very Nice by Dan Mangan
Very nice indeed
Jazzy, poppy, beautiful, fun. Lots of interesting chord choices.
February 8, 2014 Metal Meets by ohbijou
Like a flower blooming – delicate, artsy, slow jams that enhance the vibe of any room they’re in.
February 9, 2014 Tall Tall Shadow by Basia Bulat
A masterful collection of musical oohs, ohs, and ahs. Sometimes there just aren’t words to express feelings.
February 10, 2014 Liar: The Best Of The Charlottes by The Charlottes
A good album for when one wants to block out the sounds of the natural world. It’s loud, noisy, and I haven’t heard a single word the singer has said, so the songs can be about whatever the hell I want.
How can you not smile when The Cure is on? It is so great it when artists can be genuinely silly and taken seriously at the same time. Forever and ever I will always love Love Cats.
I’ve never heard of “Chamber Pop” before, but I can definitely see these tunes being suitably performed in the chamber of a palace OR your average everyday house concert :)
Night Still Comes is such a catchy tune. I think it’s going to be in my head all day :)
I’m not very familiar with much country music, but must admit that the Nashville TV show has inspired an interest in exploring this form of songwriting, so I put on Kacey’s album. It’s lovely! Reflective and thought provoking, with fun and clever lyrics. I will definitely explore country music more often.
How can you say no to killer three part harmonies? :)
Funny how you don’t always realize how many hits a band has until their “best of” album comes out. So many classics!
Trip Hop and EDM, in general, are pretty new forms of music to me. Glenn’s tunes are a palatable introduction. Easy on the ears and the nature sounds were a very pleasant surprise – transforms my usual environment into a rainforest :)
I don’t think I was in the right head space for this one. Will have to try again on a day when I’m better able to hear/focus :)
An easy album to fall into. Makes me feel like I’m drifting down a lazy river in a canoe with tree branches tickling its sides.
I have always found James Mercer’s voice to one of the most pleasant and interesting voices. He could sing anything and it would sound like magic to me. Ha ha : ) That’s not to distract from the songwriting. This is a fun album.
Paul Simon is one of my favourite types of artists – a versatile stylist who creates every song with its own distinct character and is still able to bring them together in an album that remains cohesive in feeling.
Classic Feist, but bigger sound. More voices and more soul : )
Singin’ it loud and makin’ her mamma proud :)
One of the friendliest voices out there. “Change the Sheets” has been in my head since last summer. Love it.
