A Perfect Debut From Sam Johnson With 'Perfect Circle'

Here is a stunning debut from Shropshire born 23-year-old singer/songwriter Sam Johnson who taught himself the guitar and has been making music for as long as he can remember. 'Perfect Circle' combines a sublime vocal melody with a textured instrumental backdrop. Sam's harmonies and lyrics positively glow with emotion and nostalgia as he sings about his childhood which often felt lonely. His influences range from Patti Smith, Nirvana, Ben Howard to Outsider Folk and underground Australian Punk Rock, a selection of records he discovered around his house.
Speaking of 'Perfect Circle' Sam explains, "This song is all about my childhood and youth growing up as an only child in the countryside. I was always desperate to have brothers or would quite frequently take my self off on solo adventures around the fields and woods to keep myself occupied. During these outings, I would often imagine someone else there to keep me company, and I suppose this is where I drew most inspiration for the song. The lyrics 'You're just like me' aren't really referring to someone else in a tangible sense at all, but more a figment of my imagination dreamt up to up to combat the usual restlessness and boredom I'd experience away from my friends in school."
Expect much more from Sam Johnson this year and catch him on his live dates below.
Live dates: Tues 27th February - Hull, The Polar Bear Sat 5th May - Leeds, Live at Leeds
