Shawn Mendes finally dropped a new single “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back” today, April 20, and it was worth the wait. If you’ve been waiting for new music from Shawn you can actually dance to, you’re in for a treat!
On Monday, April 17th, 2017 Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes announced that he will be releasing a new single titled “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” on Thursday, April 20, 2017. This song keeps to the vibe of the Illuminate album, but it has a rougher and moodier feel to it.
The slow reveal began with a moody blue-tinged picture of the singer playing guitar with the message “There’s Nothing #HoldinMeBack” on Monday morning (Apr. 17), followed by another wavy blue background with the whole phrase floating in white.
“The minute I wrote this song I knew I wanted to get it out before my tour started, to give fans something new and fresh in addition to everything from Illuminate,” Mendes said in a statement. “I can’t wait to perform it on the tour, and for everyone to hear it. It’s equal parts what is amazing about this album, and what I’m so excited for about the music I have coming up next.”
Shawn’s last few songs “Mercy,” “Stitches” and “Treat You Better,” have been passionate and emotional, but this new song is all about the FUN! It still has his signature raw edge, but this time it’s mixed with a catchy guitar riff and more upbeat vocals. We’re totally living for it!
