Project Renegade Cerebra Review

Here’s another of the CD’s I’ve been sent for Review recently. Something a bit different though hit the spot with me. Like it plenty.

The band is Project Renegade. Like Dimorfia (review here) they hail from Greece. Cerebra is their debit EP. It consists of three tracks each around six minutes or so in length.

Vocalist Mariana has a fine set of pipes. Clean, powerful and melodic with presence. The musical style I’d describe as heavy/progressive with a touch of darkness about it. Hard to pigeon hole overall and it’s deceptively deep.

Take the first cut – Pressure – for example. The gentle tinkling piano/keys in the background give the song a bit of a spooky/ethereal feel. Marianna’s vocals are ideally pitched. There’s a steady, crunchy riff throughout with powerful drumming and bass punching along too.

It holds the attention throughout – even a bit hypnotic here and there.

Watch the video for Pressure:

The other two songs – Natural Born Killer and One of the Crowd are similar in style to Pressure though stand-alone each with their own tales to tell.

Certainly a most promising debut effort from Project Renegade. I understand they are working on an album.

Should that follow the same path as Cerebra, they shouldn’t go far wrong. Certainly a band to go in to the “one to watch” category.
