Prolific Israeli guitarist and Classic Rock aficionado Avi Rosenfeld shows off his influences in this, the sixth instalment of his highly enjoyable homage to the days when bands like Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and Rainbow strutted around leading the pack.

Avi sent me number five a few months ago. See review here. Now he’s sent me number VI- and another fine chunk of seventies-style rockerama in the style of Heep, Purple etc. it is.

Unless you know it wasn’t Heep you’d swear it was.

Guitars chug away with the big chords, washes out sound and deft solos locked in with swirling hammonds and keys just like it used to be.

Take the opener for example. Battles Rain. Keys and guitars drive it along nicely with a mystic atmospheric undertone. Vocals are a bit Dio-esque too. Crash in to the Sun has a Blackmore-style guitar run.

Each song is well constructed and well executed. And varied. Have a listen to The Desert and the Wind for Eastern-flavoured rock featuring a spot of heavy metal violin – where else do you get that…..?

Top marks to Avi for putting this together. Sure, it doesn’t hide its influences and it stands on its own merits as a fine classic rock style offering which is very pleasing to the ear.

Remarkably Very Heepy Very Purple VI is Avi’s thirtieth album. A noteable effort to keep the quality bar set high and do so in a collaborative way drawing on contributions from like-minded musicians worldwide.

Whether you grew up with Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and similar or simply like “proper” classic rock played like it used to be – I’d urge you to get your ears around this album.
