Spa Six Hours is this event you absolutely have to put in your diary. As its name suggests, that six hour race taking place at Spa-Francorchamps is a must in endurance Racing. Its particularity is that it’s all about vintage racing cars, and that’s what makes it so special. Attending this race makes you go back in time in a split second, bringing back memories to people or allowing youngsters to feel what racing was like before is where the magic is.
The cars not being that young have to keep up during six hours and the drivers are racing like hell in cars which are really difficult to drive. No fewer than one hundred and twenty cars were participating this year, seventeen Ford GT40s were there, sharing the track with Jaguar E-Type(s), Shelby Mustang(s) & Cobra(s) but also, amongst others, Lotus Elan(s), Triumph TR4s, Ford Falcon(s) & 911s. Sharing the track, yes, but not sharing hope as three Ford GT40s climbed on the podium, again followed by three GT40s. The first non Ford car is a Lotus Elan 26R taking the seventh place.
The big part of this event is without any doubts the endurance race but that wasn’t everything !
In fact, Spa Six Hours was a great follow-up to AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix that I visited last month. These two events were complementary to me as I met some old friends but also some new ones ! Some FIA Masters Historic Racing series were present just like in Germany, lucky I was to see this time two Peugeot (908 HDi FAP/908X) and a beautiful Ferrari 550 GTS Prodrive GT1 in the Masters Endurance Legends. Also, Formula 1 cars were racing with the presence of two impressive Shadows DN1/DN5 and a Hill GH1 for example. The Masters Pre-66 Touring Cars series is always one to see too, drivers sideways everywhere and Mini Cooper(s) nearly touching the wall every time they pass at La Source is really nice to see.
