All New 2017 EBR Black Lightning Model

Ever since I laid eyes on one of the early Buell S1 Lightning models as a kid, I had to have a Buell.  Erik Buell’s engineering and true ingenuity had.  Then when they came out with the XB Lightning and Firebolt models I had to have one.  The perimeter brakes, fuel in the frame, oil in the swing-arm and aggressive looks made me by one.  To this day I still have my 2005 Buell XB9C CityX Model.  When EBR filed for bankruptcy, it truly saddened me.

Having met Erik and his true passion for thinking outside the box, I was rooting for him.  That’s why when I heard they were coming back with a new 2017 model, I couldn’t wait to see it.  So when they announced the EBR Black Lightning I was excited.  Although it is still basically the 1190SX model, certain areas have been improved.

The transmission has been redesigned to better handle and distribute the power of the 185hp 1190 engine for the street.  The 1190’s engine was original designed for the EBR race team and track use which was not modified in anyway for the street version.  The bike has also been lowered approximately 1″ and the foot pegs redesigned for a more comfortable seating position.   All in all I am pushing for Erik to finally make it this time around and can’t wait to see what there sub $10,000 model will be.

You can see the EBR Black Lightning which is being unveiled at the Long Beach California International Motorcycle Show this month.  Checkout more of EBR and the history behind them.
