How to Follow Through With Your New Years Resolution

With the new year just around the corner, it’s time to evaluate the past year and make goals for the next one. Some of these goals may include health and fitness, money, making yourself a better person, and so many more possibilities. Whatever your New Year’s Resolution is, here are some strategies to keep up with it in 2019 (and hopefully beyond).

Ponder your New Year’s resolution

Before deciding on a New Year’s resolution, decide that you actually want to go forth with it. A lot of the time, people make resolutions with no actual plans to hold up their end of the bargain. If you want to actually pull through you need to really think about what you want to achieve and why. If you are doing things for superficial reasons, you will never keep up with your New Years Resolution.

Put it into the universe

Say your New Year’s resolution aloud, post it on social media, write it in your journal. Basically, one of the most important things is that you make yourself accountable. When you tell other people, you will feel pressure to make your goals happen. Other people are often a good motivator, making sure that we are doing what we say we will.

Make a Plan

After you’ve really thought about why you want your New Years resolution, it’s time to make a plan. How can you achieve your goals? When we have one huge goal it’s had to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Set small goals along the way that you can reach.

Celebrate the Small Victories

When we reach the small goals that we set, these are a cause for celebration. When you celebrate the small victories, you will be more thankful for the large win. Reward yourself for reaching your goals and you will be more motivated to complete your challenge.

Be Realistic

Whether it’s your large goals or small goals, make sure that your New Years resolution is realistic. Have an unrealistic goal will make you unmotivated in the future. You might think that you are able to do it all right now, but you can’t account for the time and energy you’ll have to spend on other things. Make sure that you give yourself a goal that you’re able to reach without totally stressing yourself out.

Don’t give up over one setback

With being realistic in mind, it’s still very likely that you will have setbacks. You never know what life will bring you. If you happen to not reach a goal, it’s okay. You have the whole year ahead of you. Have you ever noticed that you have the same New Year’s resolution every year? That’s probably because you’ve given up before. Don’t let this year be just another year, achieve your goals and be the person that you want to be.

Patience

Rome wasn’t built in a day. You are going to see the changes you want to see right up front. You need to keep working to achieve your goals every day. Patience is going to be the virtue to get you through your resolutions. When it doesn’t feel like you can make it to the gym, or spend less money, or anything really, just be patient with yourself and soon you’ll start seeing changes.
