Childhood is For Children to Enjoy

[The following was written by one of the Co-Founders of CCA. He has kindly given us, The CCA Support Team permission to post this. Thank you Greg].

Childhood is for Children to enjoy, not parents. Childhoods are for making memories and laying the foundations of a happy and fulfilling life ahead.

This is Rosy Stansbey. She was deprived of her childhood by the actions and allegations of one parent.

If Rosy’s parent had beat her in public, society would have intervened. Society and so-called friends and acquaintances, stood back and let this silent abuse happen. This ‘complicitness’ by our society continues, the very silence around this abuse is astounding.

The NSPCC had 36,000 contacts last year from children about Family Breakdown concerns and mental health issues, 7,000 were under 11 years of age; primary school age.

The Association of Schools and College Leaders, who represent 19,000 schools, have highlighted that family breakdown and the mental health of children is of increasing concern.

There were 6,000 suicides last year, many a direct result of family breakdown which costs the UK taxpayer £48 billion per year.

“I have got the support of the United Nations.”

We have a well publicised child mental health ticking time bomb on our hands, and when our children become adults this will only worsen.

For some, these issues are real.

I have got the support of the United Nations in the following Open Letter.

Philip Alston, Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights of children will investigate my claims in November. This has been shared with the UK Government, senior ministers and the Ministry of Justice.

I have had the privilege to co-found Cornerstone, an Alliance of 15,000 people who aim to bring an end to this humanitarian crisis and breaches of human rights against an incalculable number of children.

I am incredibly proud to be part of Cornerstone Team within my role as Co-Founder; here is our Team.

Cornerstone seeks to give clarity, certainty and transparency for children and parents following separation.

“We are drafting changes to UK legislation with the support of our legal team.”

Allegations of domestic abuse and parental alienation should be tested in criminal, not family courts and charged accordingly. When allegations are found to be falsified there should be a penalty. If these many allegations of abuse were found to be true, we would have tens of thousands of parents imprisoned; however we do not.

Following direction from a senior minister, we are drafting changes to UK legislation with the support of our legal team. These changes will ensure children have maximum time with both parents, made into legislation, when practical and possible following family breakdown.

Cornerstone has collaborated with some of the UK’s leading child mental health experts to reduce the impact of separation on children. We are lobbying 47 MP’s who support our campaign.

“Family breakdown is not a crime yet children are dragged through our courts with no good reason.”

We have collaborated with leading reformers in Canada and United States who are campaigning for the same outcomes for children; many American states have been successful in making “maximised time” part of legislation and we are learning from their experiences.

Family breakdown is not a crime yet children are dragged through our courts with no good reason costing families tens and in some cases hundreds of thousands of pounds.

If your child was physically ill, you would do your best to make them better. Shared care is proven, with global research of 150,000 children, to give the best outcomes for children following separation, yet many parents, and our law, ignores this research. Why this is ignored is unknown.

Childhood is for children to enjoy, not parents. Childhoods are for making memories and are the building blocks of a happy and fulfilling life.

Any parent who damages a childhood is committing abuse. Society needs to stand up and make some noise.
