The Year of the Horse is the seventh sign in the Chinese Zodiac calendar. According to one myth, while the horse was galloping across the river to reach the finish point sent by the Jade Emperor, a snake hitched a hidden ride on the horse’s hoof as it was not a good swimmer. However, when the horse was about to reach the finishing point, the snake jumped off the horse’s hoof and startled him and reached the finish before the horse could; thereby leaving the horse in seventh position. As per another myth, the horse had to cross through a cemetery before reaching the Jade Emperor, but as he was scared of crossing the cemetery, hesitated for a long time and ran through the cemetery with his eyes closed. Once he was out of the cemetery he made up for lost time by running at full speed and thereby gaining himself the seventh position. Whatever may be the story, the fact is that the horse is an elegant animal and has been of a great help to humanity. They have been crucial for hu
