Step: 1 – Cutting & Interfacing

The measurements for the finished bag size is 13 inches. However, you can adjust the size to small or a bigger one depending upon your needs and requirements

Grab a bag pattern on paper and cut the paper from dimensions. Now place this paper over the leather and cut the leather as per pattern. For the clear edges of leather, you must use a rotary cutter. Scissor will also work but the rotary cutter will give you a perfect cut and a smooth finishing.

You can cut the lining and the outer fabric by following the dimensions given below:

Dimension for the outer bag are:

  • Front and back sides should be 14” to 11” in rectangular shape
  • Left and right sides should be 3” to 11” rectangular
  • Flap should be in square of 14” to 14”
  • Two Straps with measurements will be 60” to 2.5”. You can have desired lengths by combining two stripes. You can adjust the length of stripes according to your requirement
  • Bottom should be in rectangle shape with 14” to 3” measurements
  • Outer slip pocket with 14” to 9” rectangles

Dimensions for the lining of fabrics are:

  • Measurements of front and back panels are 14” to 11” rectangles
  • Left and right panels 3” to 11” rectangles
  • Flap is in square with 14” to 14” measurements
  • Strap with 60” to 2,5” measurements
  • Bottom with 14” to 3” rectangle
  • Inner slip small pocket lining 12” to 5” rectangles
  • Outer slip large pocket lining 14” to 9” rectangles

In order to cut interface, you must have to place fabric over interface and cut in way that interface and fabric should be equal. Done the same for every piece of fabric you cut. Cut the interfacing of the straps as well.

Step: 2 – Sewing Bag Flap

Place the pieces of flap side by side. Pin them and started to sew around the sides. Trim he corners of the bag. Use the chopsticks or something pointed to push the corners.

Flip the pieces inside out and sew the corner again.

Step: 3 – Adding Magnetic Snap

Almost 1 inch up from the flap bottom place the Magnetic Snap. Make sure to place the magnetic snap on the central point. You can use seam ripper to place holes on the lining fabric. You can also place fray prevention liquid on the hole but it is completely your choice whether you want you place or not.

Step: 4 –Sewing The Large Pockets

Placing the outer fabrics and lining together, pin them and sew. Flip the pieces and stitch from edges. Repeat the process for the other lining fabrics

Now again make a hole on the outer pack and place the female side of your magnetic snap. Follow the instructions from the step 3 to place the female side of magnetic snap. You need to attach this to the outer side of the bag body. Pin and sew from the right sides and left bottom of the pocket to thoroughly attach the pocket to the bag.

Step: 5 – Assembling

This step is important and you have to re-sew the backstitching in order to make sure that the stitching is perfectly done. Assemble the pocket and outer bag with the stitching. Make sure that the stitching from the corners should be perfectly done in order to avoid holes.

Step: 6 – Making Strap

Stich the straps and the lining together that you have cut earlier. Attach the strap on the left and right side of the bag.

You have to attach the strap to the slider loop first. Loop the strap to the end bar of the slider bar. Make a box at the end of strap in order to hold the strap firmly.

Do the same with the other side bar of the bag to attach second side of strap.

Unfold the bag inside out and you are done. Recheck the bag that you have sewed everything perfectly and that there must be no hole. Stuff the lining into the bag and finish. In order to stick the lining firmly you can also make use of glue in addition to sewing. This will assure you that the lining is perfectly in its place.
