7 Causes For Your Leg Pain

Pain in the leg can vary from a dull ache to an intense stabbing sensation. It can happen due to overuse or minor injuries. Here are some common causes of leg Pain that your doctor can treat effectively.

1. Muscle Cramp –

Cramps aren’t a sign of any serious health issue and they usually go away on their own. Cramp is when your calf Muscle suddenly gets tight. It causes a sharp pain in your calf. Moreover, you may feel a hard lump of muscle in that area. Cramps tend to happen more when you’re out in hot weather and don’t keep yourself hydrated. The chances of getting cramps increase with age. Don’t forget to talk with your doctor if you have them often.

2. Pulled Muscle –

Pulled muscle generally means stretched muscle. It happens with lot of people who play sports. The pain of pulled muscle is quite intense and starts right away. The best way to treat pulled muscle is to ice it with cold packs for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day. If icing doesn’t work for you, over-the-counter pain relievers can ease the ache.

3. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) –

If you’re suffering from PAD condition, the chances are your limbs (especially your legs) don’t get enough blood. It occurs when arteries in your legs get narrower. You may feel weakness or numbness in your legs. Moreover, you may feel muscle cramps in your legs while walking. A sudden change in lifestyle, (such as quit smoking, regular exercise, healthy diet and more) can help you get rid of peripheral artery disease. However, if changing lifestyle habits don’t work for you, it’s better to consult with your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe you the right treatment to treat your problem.

4 Arthritis –

It is one of the most common health conditions in humans. Arthritis affects your knees, hips, and ankles. It causes pain, swelling, and stiffness in your joints, making it hard for you to walk or do other everyday activities. There’s no cure for arthritis, but regular exercise can help you manage arthritis pain.  Moreover, you can use ice packs or heating pads to treat the aching joints. This will ease pain and swelling in your joints. You can take over the counter painkillers if ice pack or heating pad doesn’t work for you.

5. Electrolyte Imbalance –

Electrolytes are minerals, such as calcium, potassium, and sodium that help your body muscles to work properly. Your body may lose these minerals through sweat during exercise or due to some medical treatments, like chemotherapy. Losing too much of these minerals can lead to cramps in your legs. Moreover, you might feel weak or numb. Sports drinks with electrolytes, healthy diet and water can help you balance your electrolyte levels. See your doctor if you cramp up often.

6. Peripheral Neuropathy –

Peripheral neuropathy is a disorder of nerves, apart from the brain and spinal cord. These are those nerves that send messages to and from your brain. The most common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes. You may feel prickly or tingly in your legs due to peripheral neuropathy. Your doctor will treat the condition that’s causing it and prescribe you some medicines to treat pain, if needed.

7. Tendinitis –

Tendons are the flexible cords that connect muscles to bones. It can hurt a lot if they get inflamed, especially when you move that joint. This is called tendinitis. The best way to treat tendinitis is the R.I.C.E. method (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). If this therapy doesn’t work, consult with your doctor right away. Your doctor may suggest some anti-inflammatory pain meds, such as ibuprofen or naproxen to treat your pain.

A number of serious conditions and injuries may cause Leg Pain. Never ignore leg pain that doesn’t seem to be going away or accompanied by other symptoms. See your doctor if you’re concerned about your leg pain.
