An all new Variety of hybrid grape is set to be released in the market for commercial cultivation soon!

This new pure grape juice variety will help farmers reap multiple benefits with its unique properties.

Developed by Pune’s National Research Centre for Grapes (NRCG) and christened Manjri Medika, the hybrid variety not only has a very high concentration of anthocyanin but also rich in antioxidant properties, reports The Indian Express.

The variety yields up to 10-12 tonnes per acre and is far more disease-resistant in comparison to its normal table or wine counterparts.

“The juice from this grape has medicinal value and extensive research is going on in this field,” S D Sawant, director of NRCG told the Indian Express.

Apart from its bountiful yield and medicinal juice, its pulp can be dried and used as a food additive. Also, the oil extracted from its seed, used in the cosmetic industry can earn more income.

“High in medicinal value, the pomace can be used to churn out grape-flavoured confectioneries,” said Sawant.

The NCRG has also tied up with Nashik’s Sahyadri Farms to promote the large-scale commercial cultivation of the variety.

The Nashik-based farm is equipped with Imported Juice Extraction machinery, oil-extraction facilities and machines to powder the pomace.

The imported juice extraction facility at the Sahyadri Farms preserves it for over six months without additional preservatives.

“It is a new product… this can be another avenue to generate revenues for farmers…Economics of this variety promises to be better than that of wine grapes,” Chairman of Sahyadri Farms, Vilas Shinde told Indian Express.
