The OG Weekender: 7.14.17

What’s new in Dayton this weekend? We’re back with a weekend run down that’s filled with the latest in local events as well as trending topics in marketing and technology. Join us for another round of the OG Weekender:

Celebrate the 165th Montgomery County Fair

All weekend long you can enjoy fair favorites at the Montgomery County Fair, including 4H projects, a dog show, games, rides, and even rodeo shows. It’s also the last year the fair will be located on S. Main Street in Dayton, as the fairgrounds move to Arthur O. Fisher Park in Jefferson Township for 2018.

Shop local at 3rd Sundays Front Street Market

On the third Sunday of the month, head to East Second Street in Dayton to support local artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs at the outdoor marketplace. Here you can find unique antiques and collectibles, artisan goods, local produce, freshly baked goods, food trucks and live acoustic music.

New in Social Media: Facebook can now help you find free Wi-Fi hotspots

Research shows that customers stay longer and spend more money at businesses that offer free Wi-Fi. Now, Facebook is now making it easier for businesses and consumers to connect. Last year, Facebook added the “Find Wi-Fi” feature to iPhone and Android versions of its app, allowing users to use their location to find free Wi-Fi hotspots in local businesses. The feature is now available globally, which is perfect if you’re traveling internationally and don’t want to use roaming mobile data. You can access the feature under the “Explore” section of the Facebook mobile app.

Listen to your personalized Coca-Cola jingle

Coke is continuing the success of its ‘Share a Coke’ marketing campaign with a new, fun twist for summer 2017. In addition to replacing their logo with popular first and last names, they’ve created a special website where users can hear their name used in a Share a Coke jingle. To do so, they hired nine singer/songwriters to create over 1,000 original jingles featuring the names of more than 77% of the general U.S. population ages 13 to 34. If you have a unique name like me, you know how hard it is to find a coffee mug with your name on it, let alone hear it used in a song. The success of the ‘Share a Coke’ campaign once again imparts that personalization is an effective and memorable marketing strategy.

Have a great weekend!
