7 Reasons Why Content Is King (Still) In 2017

Back in January 3 of 1996, then CEO of Microsoft corporation Bill Gates published his Essay entitled “Content is King”. In it, he has expressed his predictions that content will play a very important role in the future of the then-emerging Internet. “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting,” he says as his opening line in the essay.

Looking at the landscape now, his words ring true. No one can deny the fact that his words are very much accurate nowadays. However, when he had published his essay, many people have doubted his statement, primarily because he was then running a giant corporation that would’ve and could’ve easily dominated the Internet and control which type of content would go online and which wouldn’t.

Despite this, the former CEO of Microsoft fully understood, even then, that content will not only dictate the future of the Internet itself but the overall business landscape along with it. And today’s Marketing trends in various platforms prove this point very much.

Since publishing has become more democratized throughout the Internet, businesses, marketers, and other professionals have taken advantage of content in order to reach their target market and their marketing goals in the online world. Blog posts, news articles, infographics, images, videos, posts, slideshows – these are just some of the ways that businesses and marketers employ in order to deliver content to their target market and to potential customers/audiences. They dominate the internet these days and all aim to entertain, create and build relationships, educate and inform, and most importantly, influence purchase decision.

Nowadays, statistics show that 70% of B2B marketers plan to create more content this year compared to 2016 due to its sheer effectivity. This only goes to show that there is no more stopping content marketing. And as this year runs its course, Harris Myers explore the top reasons why content remains and will always be the king of marketing and online realms through this infographic.
