The Embrace a Healthy Florida initiative provides Grants to nonprofit organizations, funds research and fosters community collaboration and engagement. The community engagement strategic effort focuses on six communities in five regions: Jacksonville, Miami (Hialeah and Opa Locka), Orlando (Parramore), Tampa (Sulphur Springs) and Tallahassee.

Grants for 9/11 Remembrance Projects
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11th this year, Do Something and American Express are teaming up to offer grants to young people who want to take action and start commemorative projects in their own communities.
Grant winning projects that are in the spirit of September 11th may involve ideas like:
- commemorating emergency service responders — ouTheGrantConnectionr firefighters and policeman across the country
- programs that support our troops at home and abroad
- projects that promote diversity and understanding across cultures
These can be on-going projects or projects specifically planned around the 10th anniversary of September 11th.
The program will award Ten Grants of $1,000 and ten grants of $500. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens aged 25 or under. The deadline for applications is September 1, 2011, and winners will be notified on September 11.
