Being A Dad

Two months ago I became a dad to a Baby boy. If there’s one thing I learned, it’s that being a father doesn’t begin when the baby is born. It starts with a decision to become one.

It’s better not to rely on this popular belief because we don’t automatically gain daddy Instincts. Fatherhood is something we have to work on daily.

From the time I struggled to hold my son in my arms, until today that I dance with him to the tune of Can’t Stop the Feeling, is not due to instincts. It’s through courage and practice.

From the time when I thought he’s Crying for no reason, to the time when I could distinguish what he wants. Again not instincts, but the result of trial and errors.

I hope there’s a better way. Where I don’t have to deal with the endless crying and diaper change. Where I can skip the sleepless nights, and occasional shower of regurgitated milk. I honestly been never this exhausted, and my patience stretched to its limit.

Like it or not, this is the life we now have.

My wife said it best, “Welcome to fatherhood!”
